We are going on a cruise, stopping at St. Martin, St. Thomas, Grand Turk...
HAve heard some good things about buying jewelry at St. Martin & St. Thomas..
ANy recommendations?
Looking for a gold chain for DH...but not ruling myself out!!!:)
Which is better, St. Martin or St. Thomas as far as jewelry goes?

There is a little shop in St Thomas where the ships often dock - not in the main town - where there is a little place that sells David Yerman. I know that they are an authorized dealer and that they do give a percentage off (I forget the amount) but they are better prices than you will see in the stores in NY.
Otherwise - honestly shopping is hit and miss - you really have to know what you are buying and the prices to know if it is a good deal or not. I have gotten some good deals and other times haven't seen anything worth the price.

Definitely in St Thomas. Not sure what port they dock in Havensight or Red Hook? But there are shops there that are good. You can even go to Charles Amalie (main town of St Thomas) and try there. We only went to Tiffany's and bought there. Pretty good price and avoided the tax.

of the list of where you're going, I have only been to St. Thomas. they have a TON of jewelry stores (at least they did in the 90's when I was there). I bought a gold bracelet with semi-precious stones and it was a good deal. not the deal of a lifetime, but cheaper than NY. plus it was a memento from my trip.
if you're looking for a gold chain, make sure you know how much you would pay here per gram. have them weigh the chain infront of you and then do the math in your head.
also remember to haggle the prices!

St Thomas and they should have a Little Switzerland there. It's a very nice jewlery store on a lot of the caribbean islands. Have fun!

I found the stores MUCH nicer in St. Thomas. I'd recommend Cardow.

St. Thomas gets my vote also. My family and I have worked with the same jeweler for years. While you might get a better price elsewhere, you cannot beat the service or quality at Ballerina Jewelers.

I agree. I have been going there for years. ( Since I was a little girl with my parents)they even have a sale section in the back of the store.HTH
