recommend a restaurant in the RVC area
We want to take my MIL out to dinner tonight in the RVC / Baldwin area. Any recommendations? Nothing too fancy b/c I think she only brought casual clothes. (After all, we've been working on the house nonstop!)
Thoughts? Any place casual that would take a reservation? (I can dream...)

Re: recommend a restaurant in the RVC area
Casual - Grillfire, Churchill's, RJ Daniels (not as good as the other two) (burgers/american) Gabrielle's - $25 for a 3 course price fix Blue Moon (italian/brick oven pizzas)
George Martin is a little more upscale but still relatively casual. Same owners as Grillfire.
I know Grillfire and George Martin won't take reservations for under 6 but they do have call ahead seating. All these restaurants are on Park Avenue south of Sunrise, except George Martin is by the train station.
There's always Golden Reef Diner if you want to go super casual.

Re: recommend a restaurant in the RVC area
i grew up in RVC and Baldwin and the main restaurants are all in RVC... so many on Park Avenue.
For casual, go Cabo (Mexican) on Park Ave.
or McArthur Park on Maple Avenue... a little bit of everything and great pub grub
Blue Moon on Park for Itialian Dodici on Park also is great, but a bit fancy and pricey.
Baldwin has more than you think. DJ Houdek's on Merrick Rd is really good! pub grub... nothing crazy. Old Venice Inn is charming... but good.
Wander Inn is a classic on Grand Avenue just north of Atlantic Ave. great food, very casual....great pizza and pasta.
Also, you'll be very pleasantly surprised with Princepessa..... it's way up north Baldwin on Grand Avenue right before the parkway (left side if going north) you can WALK right in.... we joke it's a mafia place because there is no one ever in there, but the food is GREAT! (Italian)

Re: recommend a restaurant in the RVC area
Sorry all, but please don't go to Cabo. I gave it 2 shots, both times the service was terrible and the food not so good.
I'd rather see you go to Pancho's in Island Park for Mexican.
RVC Blue Moon Dodici There's a seafood place next to the Fantasy movie theater, forgot the name...

22 North Park is now Gabrielle's Tomatoes is now Aqua
While I do like Dodici I don't think it's as casual as you want. As for Cabo - I didn't recommend it because although the food is pretty good IMO, the service is horrible.

OMG, that is still around? My parents used to take us out there as kids, years ago! I always loved it, the food is great!
I like Blue Moon in RVC and then International Delights across Sunrise for dessert.

Re: recommend a restaurant in the RVC area
Gabrielle's is amazing and you get so much for the money. I've gone there dressed pretty casually and felt okay, but we went early so I can't speak for what it would be like when it's more crowded. I think they do take reservations.
George Martin is always good and you'd be fine in casual attire, but they only have the call ahead seating, not reservations unless you're a bigger party.
Sole in Oceanside is one of our favorites but I wouldn't go without a reservation and they also don't give them unless you have I think four or more in your party.

Re: recommend a restaurant in the RVC area
I am not sure what type of food you are looking for but there is a good thai restaurant on N. Viliage in RVC called Tahi Table. Really great food

Love Thai Table and Simply Thai -- aside from all the others mentioned, there's also Greek Town (not fancy at all but great food). and Il Paradiso in the Home Goods shopping center.
