My kids like the leapfrog letter and phonics factory dvds. Can your DC identify every letter both upper and lower case, and give the sound it makes yet? I would focus on that before focusing on site words.

Re: recommend learning dvd-sightwords
I cant say enough about the preschool prep p DVDs.
My older DS got the sight words set when he turned 4 (also bought the books) within 2 months he was reading sight word book with no help. He did learn his letter sounds from leapfrog letter factory.
For my second son, I bought the meet the letters, shapes, colors and numbers set. With in 1 month he could recognize his letters and numbers and shapes. He started watching the sight words and letter sounds just so he wouldn't get bored and now he recognizes about 10-15 words. He will be 2 in April. I am truly amazed by these videos.
That said, my kids, especially my older DS is a very visual learner so DVDs are a great learning tool for him.
