Recommend your favorite cruise line!
DH and I went to Europe on Celebrity which is fantastic. My family always cruises Celebrity. However, DH wants to try a different line. He thought there were too many "geriatrics" on the Celebrity cruise. LOL.
Anyway, I prefer good service with excellent food which is why I like Celebrity.
I would like to hear which lines you have cruised and what you liked about them.
TIA! DH and I are already planning our one year anniversary! (Even though we just got married in April but we are looking to see whats available for 4/2010!)

Re: Recommend your favorite cruise line!
We did Carnival 2 years ago. The food was EXCELLENT but it wasn't all that entertaining. The excursions were well organized and the service was great in some areas, not so great in others (call up room service and apparently you're bothering them).
We did Royal for our honeymoon. As the week progressed, the food was like bad wedding food, even in the dining room. The good thing was that you could have as much of anything as you wanted so if we didn't like it, we could send it back. By the end of the week, some of us at the table was ordering 2 appetizers, 2 entrees, and 2 desserts. It was ridiculous.
The excursions were poorly organized and not all that great. We went during the first part of the swine flu situation adn they canceled our call in Mexico, which was fine, but then didn't give us any credits or money back (from what we heard, Carnival gave a $200 on board credit). BUT the entertainment was FANTASTIC. There was always something to do and the promenade was very cool with all the shops and restaurants.
If I had to pick, I'd go with Royal again just because I'd rather have fewer dining options than be bored. Do your own thing for the excursions, eat at Johnny Rockets a couple of times during the week and you'd be fine on Royal.

Re: Recommend your favorite cruise line!
I have cruised on Royal Caribbean several times in the past 16 years. The crowd always seem to be a mix. We are going on a cruise with them again this August, this time with my whole family ranging in age from 10 months to 78. Last time we went, the food was not as good as it was in the past, but it was still very good. The service was excellent, and the entertainment a lot of fun. We had good experiences with the shore excursions. My sisters family is going with us, and they have cruised many times on both Princess and Royal Caribbean and liked them both equally.

I've only been on Carnival, mainly bc it seems to be a younger crowd. I've always had a great time.

Re: Recommend your favorite cruise line!
Being a travel agent, I have cruised all of the major lines at least once.
While my preference of the mass market lines is also Celebrity, I believe the line that might be the best fit for both you and your DH would be Royal Caribbean.
Yes, you are going to sacrifice some service moving from Celebrity, but I believe it RCI is the next best thing.
I would definitely look at their "Voyager" class ships, or maybe even the new Oasis which will make her debut later this winter.
If I can help in any way, please don't hesitate to let me know.

Re: Recommend your favorite cruise line!
We have cruised on Princess, Celebrity, Carnival and RC.
By far, Princess is our favorite. RC, to us, was like a shopping mall at sea and we really didn't enjoy it (although we did sail to Canada, so it was a different vibe).

Re: Recommend your favorite cruise line!
I agree about Princess, but it is even a step above Celebrity on the cruise line food chain.
The average age of a passenger on Princess is higher than that of Celebrity, so if you are wanting to sail with a younger crowd, you are going to sacrifice the service and amenities that put Celebrity, Princess, Holland America, etc. a step above.
Younger crowds typically sail Carnival, Norwegian, Royal Caribbean, and MSC. Out of that group, Royal Caribbean, to me, offers the best cruise experience.

Re: Recommend your favorite cruise line!
Okay, NOW I am in a bind. Looks like we are sticking with Celebrity, LOL.
I checked two cruises- both Carribean and both nearly the same price.
RC cruise is for 7 days on a new ship.
Celebrity is for 11 days on a new ship AND Concierge Class.
The price difference is like 100 bucks or so.
So, I think the better buy is the Celebrity one. Let's see what me Husband says about this one...

Re: Recommend your favorite cruise line!
When I cruised to Europe we were one of 5 couples under 40 and most people were way older. That was on RC. I think it's just an older crowd that cruises there. I think to the Caribbean you'll find a better mix.

Re: Recommend your favorite cruise line!
Once you go on Celebrity you will be spoiled from the food and service! My family cruises them all the time too and I have been on about 13 or so of them. DH and I have tried princess twice (bigger ships - caribbean - where there are younger crowds) - and have enjoyed them. The food isn't as good as celebrity but it was okay. Basically from talking to people who have been on various lines and family who has done various lines - you won't get the same quality food on any of the other mass market lines - you would have to go to a premium line. But that RCCL and Princess seem to be the two lines that people enjoy after Celebrity.

We only do NCL. There is a wide range of ages and we love the freestyle dining option. I don't want to be held to a schedule when I am on vacation.

Just FYI, RC and Princess now both have anytime dining in addition to the traditional seating as well as a few other options.

Re: Recommend your favorite cruise line!
I have cruised Celebrity 3 times and am biased. My DH loves celebrity as well. He has been on 13 cruises and other lines and loves celebrity the best
we were on the solstice in march, plenty of young people

Oh yea? Where did you guys go on the Solstice? I saw that ship in Europe. I don't think it had people on it yet but it was a cool looking ship!

we cruised out of Ft. Lauderdale on the Solstice in march, the itinerary is 7 nights in the Caribbean.
I am going on the Equinox, their other new ship in February, 10 nights Caribbean out of FT. lauderdale

Re: Recommend your favorite cruise line!
The best cruise I've been on was Disney. You may think...omg...screaming kids all over the place. I didn't see one. There are adult areas on the boat and adults only beaches on their private island. The food was the best I've ever had.
My second fave was Royal Caribbean. Clean, fun, beautiful rooms...I would do it again in a heartbeat.

Awesome. The one we are thinking about for next year is the Equinox out of Ft. Lauderdale for 10-11 days.
