Recommend your Kayak(s)!

I am looking to get 2 kayaks for my husband for his birthday. I am looking for single person kayaks (so we would each have one), although actually we would each be kayaking with a LO (1-1/2 and 3yo). Anyone have any recs? We used to have a two person kayak, but it actually got stolen off our dock Chat Icon I haven't made any decisions re: $$$, so whatever you have, if you like it, please recommend it!

Note: these kayaks will be for kayaking in the river behind our house mainly, which is pretty calm. Not for ocean kayaking.

TIA!

We have a bunch of single person, sit in kayaks we use in our lake. Most of them are pelican brand. We have a few that were really inexpensive and one that was triple the price. To be honest for what we use them for they are all the same. I like the ones that have pegs for your feet and a kinda adjustable seat. I also have one that has an easy to reach dry storage area where I keep my water and whatever else.
We got them all at sports authority when they have a big sale.

I don't have a brand recommendation, but I grew up on a river as well so I've used different kayaks that my dad has bought over the years, some with one seat, and some with two, as well as a canoe. When my brother and I were little my parents would take us in the canoe because that way they could each sit on a bench to row, and there was plenty of room for my brother and I to sit on the floor of the boat. With a one person kayak there is not much room for a child. There would pretty much just be room on your lap with I think would make it very difficult to row and steer. I would say look into either two 2-person kayaks so that there would be a seat for each child in front of you and your husband, or a canoe or row boat for the 4 of you. You would probably get a lot more use out of that, especially as your kids get bigger. With two 2 person kayaks, they could just sit on the extra seat until theyre older, and then when they're big enough they could actually help row.

Thank you! These are good points! We previously had a two person kayak that was large enough for us all. It was so heavy and kind of a pain to get in and out of the water, which is why I was thinking 2- single people kayaks. Definitely need room for the kids to be comfy though, and for actual paddling!
