My mom has a Dyson and loves it. I am blessed to have been given a Kirby and aside from being heavy, I have no complaints

The Eureka Boss series has been rated better than Dysons, and a fraction of the price! We have two of them.

we have a hoover windtunnel and I hate it- it has broken twice and doesnt pick up well at all

We have the Dyson animal vacuum and it is amazing compared to any other vacuum I’ve ever owned…I think it picked up like a pound of stuff the first time we used it in our 1BR apt that we had been vacuuming with an old vacuum for months…! We got it as a wedding gift also, if I had to buy it myself I might not have gotten it b/c it is so expensive, but I know the person who got it bought it at Kohl’s with a 30% off coupon and in VT where there is no tax….

I have the Bissell pet hair remover vaccuum.. I love it! Could have a better hose attachment though. It just not long enough. But it works in our 1 bedroom Apt...

The Dyson with the yellow ball! (sorry don't know the formal name off the top of my head) but it is lightweight and amazing - truly worth the $$ vacuuming is a joy.

No pets, but a crawling 1 yr old!!
We have mostly hardwood floors and rugs.
I also live in a 2 story house so something not too heavy. I looked at the Eureka Boss and the common complaint was that it was heavy but otherwise, it got great reviews.
I don't think I can spend $400-$500, so I'm thinking nothing more than $250.
I would love something more quite too since my DS is afraid of the noise from the vacuum.

For your price range a Shark Infinity is great. Great reviews and the suction was compaired to the Dyson. I use that one for the downstairs of my home. Love it.

We have a Kirby. It's great but, it doesn't get all of the allergins (dog hair, dust, etc) I asked DH to buy me a Dyson for my BD.

i have a bissel healthy home with the pet hair removing attachments that i love to bits.
Dyson was my second contender but after trying both i couldnt see a big difference in the two that justified the 2x price difference.

I had the same problem, so I returned it to BB&B. We ended up getting the Kenmore cannister from Sears and I love it! As much as you can love a vacuum, lol!
