Recommendations for a new camera?
My mom is asking me what I want for Christmas, and I thought a new camera would be good with the baby coming. Does anyone have a certain one they would recommend? I have like Canon's in the past. The most important thing I am looking for, it the speed at which takes pictures. I hate the cameras where there is so a delay when you press the button, and then you miss the shot!

Re: Recommendations for a new camera?
We got a Nikon D40 a few weeks ago. Its on the more expensive side because it is a DSLR camera. It is the SLR cameras that you can take the pics quickly without the delay.

I recommend the Nikon too....we got the d40x on our honeymoon and now that the babies are here we are so happy to have it. It takes amazing pictures! I'll never buy a "regular" camera again....SLR is definitely the way to go!

Re: Recommendations for a new camera?
stick to the big three: canon, nikon or olympus. they don't have many other branches (eg: sony) - so that means all of their 'development and creative' budgets go to camera, lenses, etc...
the main thing you are looking for is how quickly the flash reboots to being ready....(can't think of the technical term right now)...but that is always going to be the biggest point of contention..
good luck!!

Re: Recommendations for a new camera?
This is the one I would recommend - Canon SD950IS. It has a bunch of great features. You can do a search on amazon.com and see alot of positive reviews.
When it comes to taking quick pictures, many cameras now allow you to press the 'shoot' button halfway, then when you're finally prepared to take the shot, fully press down with no lag. The camea I'm recommending is no different.

Re: Recommendations for a new camera?
We've always been a big fan of Canon's. We've owned a few over the years and never had any problems, and the pictures come out great.
