Recommendations for a resume service or writer?
Looking for a solid local (not submitting my resume online to some service--did it in the past and got burned) My current (few years old) resume isn't really getting responses. I know I need an update but don't want to spend a fortune either. I've got more than 15+ years of experience so have a lot to cover! Any recommendations or positive experiences you'd care to share?

I'd first see if anyone would volunteer to look at your resume for the industry you want to go into.
Also too, from what I've seen, a lot of resumes submitted online need to be tweeked to match keywords in the job ad.
Lastly, and I know this is a PITA to hear, but I honestly think a lot of places that are GOOD places to work at, you really need to know someone to get an interview........a resume will be secondary.
Good luck! It's rough out there!

this exactly. When I was job hunting 1 &1/2 years ago I was sending out over 20 resumes a day, yes a day... and each one was tailored for the job. I had about 3 or 4 (I don't remember) versions of my resume that based on the job description, type of company, etc, I would tweak... I also did the same for the cover letter. I was offered 1 job the week after I was laid off from the job I had (which I didn't accept) and less than 2 months later I was working at the job I'm currently at and I had 3 other offers.
Job searching is a full-time job, it really is. When I wasn't at interviews (I went on about 1-2 every day) I was checking every possible place that I could think of for leads, if I was already out for the day, sometimes I would just cold-walk into offices and ask to speak to a manager, if they weren't available I would just drop off my resume, take their card, and follow up with a cover letter email. I kept a journal of every where I sent a hard copy of my resume to, and I had all the places I sent my resume to via email in a designated folder in my email.
Good luck, it's exhausting!
