red dye and twizzlers?
Anyone hear that preggos are not supposed to eat anything with "red dye" in it.. I was munching on twizzlers and I offered it to my pregnant coworker and she was like "NO IT HAS RED DYE"  so here I'm using Oracle Google, and I'm getting all these weird results.

I have never heard of that...but I hope there is nothing wrong with eating them, cause I have been eating them everyday for the past couple of days (damn fundraiser boxes)...and I ate them all the time when I was pregnant with my DD.

huh!?
i have never ever heard of this at all.
why only red dye? there are TONS of things that are dyed these days....heck most anything has some sort of dye in it. i'm curious where this comes from

I know, I was thinking the same thing. I want to ask her, but then she'll do a tangent and ask me if about when I'm planning to have one I called DH and he was like ask the LIF girls..  He already thinks I'm crazy.

I eat red velvet and that has a ton of red dye in it.
It's not in any of my baby books... and wasn't on any of the DO NOT paperwork from the dr.
Maybe she just doesn't like red dye!

Because I was so curious I looked it up.
Seems there are inconclusive results to studies about red dy (specifically #40). It may or may not cause ADHD in kids, but that's the actual kid eating it... not the pregnant mother. Maybe she's worried if she eats it that her baby will be ADHD.
But really ... it seems a lot of foods with red dye tend to also be high in sugar... so the kid is really ingesting a lot of sugar... so is the sugar or the red dye making them hyper?? hmm...
in any event... there's nothing about red dye and preggos.

I wondered about this too. has anyone seen "juno"? she tells the guy that her stepmom makes her eat super healthy, no RED m&M's...yadda yadda?
it was on the other day and i caught that sentence. another question for the OB.

I added to my post. Yes twizzlers has it, so does cool aid, red ice pops, red skittles, etc. All the sugary sweets that are red have it.
I think you are PERFECTLY fine though. I don't even think it's the red dye causing ADHD... it's probably the SUGAR making the kid hyper.
In any event... I say you are fine!!

I know.. my pre preggo brain would have been like.. red dye and not the sugar really?? ugh.. I'm so freakin wacky..

yes.... i remember reading this in "what to expect..."
there's a chart somewhere in the book and there are certain kinds (not all) of red dye that it's recommended to stay away from or seriously limit.
