Reflux and Stops Breathing?
My DD stopped breathing this afternoon. Very Scary! She sneezed, a little formula came out of her nose then she froze. Her eyes were fixed and she look really freaked out. I called 911, turned her upside down and patted her back. I really wasn't sure what to do. She finally started crying. The ambulance took us to the hospital where she was diagnosed with reflux. Has this happened to anyone else? She stopped breathing once before a few days after she was born when we were still at the hospital. They thought is was because she was having trouble digesting the formula so they put her on Alimentum. Appearantly she has "silent" reflux because she doesn't really spit up. I remember DRMom posted a checklist of signs & symptoms of relux. Does anyone have that info handy?

Re: Reflux and Stops Breathing?
I am so sorry that must have been so scary. My dd has reflux and has had a similar thing happen. Her eyes get big and watery, and she strains her neck. I read a trick on here to blow in their face, it startles them and makes them take a breath. Then I suction her nose. If it happens again defin try that. Did they start her on any meds for it?

Re: Reflux and Stops Breathing?
The exact same thing happened to DS when he was 5 weeks old. He was in the bouncer, and when I looked at him he had formula coming out of his nose, was bright red, eyes big, and was a little stiff. At first I though he was having some sort of seizure or something, then I quickly realized that he was choking. I had taken infant CPR, so I did what I had to do for choking, and he finally came around. I called 911 and we went to the ER.
This happened again around the 10 week mark, and I finally got an appointment with the GI doctor. His was spitting up, and it was thick, so it was causing him to choke. He was diagnosed with a milk protein allergy and reflux. He's been on Alimentum and reflux meds since, and has been fine.
DS also had some breathing issues in the hospital, but they were unrelated to this. He was a preemie (6 weeks early) and had Apnea of Prematurity. He was sent home with a monitor.
