Reflux, milk allergy, what is next???
I don't post very often but have found a wealth of information on this site and cannot believe how many other babies have reflux and milk allergies!! my 2 month old son has BOTH, I just started him on Zantac today and he's been on Nutrimigen for about 2 weeks. I am hoping my baby will now finally be happy, and that both of us can get some rest. Would love to hear some success stories!! :) If this doesn't work I am just going to have to survive another few months ( which seems like eternity) and hope he grows out of it. No one warns you of this stuff, huh???!

Hi, I'm so sorry to hear about your DS's reflux and milk allergy. Ava also has both conditions. She is on Zantac, as well, but she is so sensitive to milk proteins that she is on a prescription formula called Neocate. She is the happiest little baby now that we know what was wrong with her. Hang in there, it gets better, I promise. If you need any info or want to vent, feel free to FM me

Steven is on the same formula and has now outgrown the Zantac. Neocate gave me a whole new child!!!!

Re: Reflux, milk allergy, what is next???
Thanks ladies! The ped said to give the Nutramigen a little while longer since the blood in his stool seems to be decreasing, that it takes time to work and for him to heal from the 6 wks of damage before I knew he was allergiic. She said he might also just "grow ou of it" in teh next couple weeks (3 months). How long after starting Zantac did you see an improvement in the relflux?

Well, the reflux doesn't get better, it's the squirming that they do that gets better. All the Zantac does is neutralize the stomache acids that reflux into the esophogus. The refluxing hasn't stopped yet for us, and now she's begun choking on it

DD 4 months old and on Zantac and Nutramigen too. I've only noticed a slight change and hope she will "grow" out of it soon. Ped doesn't seem too concerned because she is growing fine. It's me who has to deal with feeding a wiggling screaming baby.

Re: Reflux, milk allergy, what is next???
My son jacob had reflux and also what they thought was a milk protein allergy. He was on nutramigen and zantac till he was 7 months old. Then at about that time all his problems (EXCEPT SLEEPING) have gone away. No more reflux and no more milk protein allergy. He was weaned off nutramigen and onto similac advance at that point and then at 9 months he went to all whole milk. He's been doing great.. ASIDE FROM THE SLEEPING PROBLEM THAT IS!! Hope your little one is feeling better.. there is light at the end of the tunnel.

Re: Reflux, milk allergy, what is next???
Yikes. DS chokes on it to, which really freaks me out. It sounds like he stops breathing and then starts gasping for air - quite scary. Maybe it was a fluke but after only 1 dose of zantac last night he slept from 10pm - 5am (or maybe I was so tired I didn't hear him fuss!!!) LOL. woke for bottle, ate nicely and is still sleeping!! This has never happened before, he normally wakes up in pain all the time! Feeding him less also seems to have helped, since he is in 90th % for weight I think he'll be ok :)

My son has a milk allergy and his twin sister has acid reflux. Both are now on alimentum. It comforts me to know how common they are.
