Reflux Moms - Zantac ??
i'm going to ask the pharmacist in the AM - but can I mix her 1ml dosage (2 times a day) with a bottle??
she HATES the taste and has spit it out both times....it's not easy..(not that anything is)

We were told not to because it dilutes it too much and you run the risk of her not getting the full dose if she doesnt take her whole bottle.
DS uses a pacifier and what we do is we give him a few squirts in his mouth and then stick the paci in (to force him to suck) and then repeat until the dose is complete. This way he cant spit it out.

at first we didn't, we mixed it in the nipple with some formula right before her bottle.
now that she's consistent with how much formula she drinks, we put it in the bottle and drinks it all up =)
the other day when we went to CVS to pick up her Zantac, the pharmacist offered to "flavor" it. we declined since we just toss it in her bottle, but that's an option too.

You can, but Jess....please ask your doc for prescription for Prevacid if emma's reflux is really bad and/or doesn't improve. If you see a Pediatric Gastroenteroligist, they will actually tell you that Zantac is no good for reflux, mine is bewildered as to why peds still prescribe it.

ask your doc, but ive seen at cvs, that they can flavor meds with flavor drops...
my DC actually loved the taste of zantac.. he got all giddy when he saw the bottle...

the rn's in the NICU said it was fine to mix it in her formula as long as she drank the whole bottle I would also put it in her nipple with a little formula in it now she gets it straight up b/c she won't finish bottles and if I put it in a nipple she thrashes and it gets spilled so now the inly way to get it in her is just do it

I think it depends on the Ped GI- the one we saw (now he is the chair at Winthrop - was the chair at NSUH Manhasset) said that he starts with zantac and then goes to prevacid so I think it depends on who you talk to. Unfortunately Prevacid was horrible for my DD it made her really sick.
I know some recommend axid or mylanta or maylox.

thank you so much girls! we see the doc for a follow up on tuesday and i'm going to ask for the name of a ped. gastro and get her there asap.
i had bought this thing called reliadose and i just tried that - it worked...so we may go with that for a short while!

Hey Jess... Ryan is on Zantac and hates the taste as well. What we do to make sure he gets the whole dose, is when it's bottle time, we put the meds in the empty bottle and then put in 1 ounce of formula. I know he'll take the 1 ounce, and this way I know the meds go down. HTH!

My dd GI kept her on zantac and if that didn't work she was going to give prilosec it all depends on the dr's

We did. it was the only way to get it in him. So we did 1 ounce of formula with the medicine in it.

Our Gastro prescribed Zantac for our LO combined with Elecare formula....Poor little guy was in pain and this combination finally helped him. He was able to be weaned from Meds at one year.
FM me if I can be of any help...It was a rough time for our family.
