? regarding painting kitchen cabinets
We are holding off on a major kitchen remodel for at least 5 years, so before we move in we're going to paint the ugly (but otherwise in good condition) wood cabinets white and add new hardware.
After sanding, priming and painting - do we add a coat of poly - or some other finish so that they wont chip or get dirty?
Also - if anyone has done this - is it a major PIA? We're not terribly handy, but I figure we can manage this.
TIA!

DH didn't add a separate coat of poly after he painted our cabinets.
He bought the paint through Sherwin Williams and spoke with the guy there to get the best type of paint for the job. It's shiny and I can wipe any spots right off.
DH started sanding the cabinets by hand until my parents leant us their hand sander which helped a lot!

Re: ? regarding painting kitchen cabinets
it's easy - I did it all myself - I took all of the doors off, sanded the frames (invest in a small electric sander to save your sanity) I sanded all of the doors, filled the old holes on everything w/ wood filler and sanded again ....... - Then I primed, painted w/ a glossy finish (I just asked the guy in the hardware store what would be best for the job) - then added the new hardware and DH rehung the doors for me. - It came out really good ..... I didn't add the poliy on the cabinets and I can wipe them down w/o a problem - I DID also refinish and paint a wood table for the kitchen using the same paint, that I DID poly and now have to sand and repaint b/c the poly stained ....(I just use this table as additional counterspace) -

I don't think I took any 'after' pics - I'll do that when I get home and post

Re: ? regarding painting kitchen cabinets
I painted my cabinets. For me it was a serious PITA. I would never do it again, but having said that, I sanded, painted w/ a primer then painted the cabinets white. They look good at the end, but it took a lot more work then I though it would.

That's exactly what I did in my previous house.
No poly.
