Entenmann's Great South Bay 5k/10k/Half Marathon
I signed up for the half last year but I wasn't able to get the training done so i had to down grade to the 10k. It was a great race and I am determined to do the half this year!

This is a great alternative to the Diva Half on 10/7 because that race is $85 and this one is only $40 plus its much closer to home for me!

This was my first half I ever ran and it is a great course. Can't run this year because i have a marathon the next day!

My favorite half marathon! Looks as if there is a new race director, they really added a lot of extras to this - including the $20 price increase! I guess I was spoiled paying $20 for so long. Still a bargain compared to the Diva and much better IMO.

I'm definitely going to do this one this year! Already put it on my calendar. I wanted to do it last year but I had another event the same day.

has anyone done this race before? is it really crowded. if i decide to do it, i would most likely do the 10k race

There's usually 200-300 per race; I think with the Diva being the same weekend for the past 2 years, that takes away a few from the half, but nothing crazy. It does appear that there is a new race director this year, and they seem to be trying to promote it into a bigger event. Regardless, I do not think it will be overcrowded, the beginning is a little tight since all 3 races start together, but it opens up fast. It's really a great race, scenery is beautiful, it's flat and just fun. And a short drive for me, so I like that!
I am basing this on the past races, this year might be a different experience, but it looks like the courses haven't changed. And they still have Entenmanns listed as a sponsor and are advertising the free baked goods at the end

I want to do it, but it seems like packet pickup is only the day before, not the morning of. Which is annoying for me, because I live in Queens & it would mean I'd have to drive out there the night before to get my stuff, come home, then drive back out again the next day... very inconvenient. So I'm undecided.

i'm in staten island. they said you could also pick up the packet the day of the race

Yes, you definitely can pick-up day of. And even register that day, depending on availability. I can't remember it ever selling out, but this year they seem to be advertising it more.
