registry question - this might be more for the btdt moms
how many of each of these items should i register for? keep in mind that we do laundry once a week and i really can't see that changing since dh is the only one that knows how to do laundry and since we live in a coop its in another building.
so please tell me if you disagree with my numbers and maybe why
thanks ladies!!
washcloths - 10 bath towels - 4 onsies - 10 in each size receiving blankets - 4 (i will be using them to swaddle) crib sheets - 4 convertible car seat - 2 pac n play sheets - 2 feetie pjs - 7 in each size Pacifiers - 2 bibs - 10 hangers - 40 (i guess this one is personal preference) burp clothes - 12
can someone tell me how many bottles i should register for in each size?
thanks again

LOL you are sooooo gonna have to learn how to do laundry (or do it more than once a week).
Sorry, I have no advice on how much of everything you need (I'll be happy to tell you once DD is born, though!) but I'm already doing laundry 3x a week and it's just two of us right now!!! (I think some of that has to do with my wearing two outfits a day -- one for the gym -- and also because I only have 4 pairs of maternity pants I actually really like.)

and i know with a baby we should up it i just dont know when dh will find the time with work and school twice a week

Re: registry question - this might be more for the btdt moms
I had my friend who's a BTDT mom come with me to register-she was so helpful!
The big piece of advice she did give me was not to register for too many onesies-since people would buy them for you randomly, plus you might have a really big baby-that might be too big for 0-3 months (one of my friends 3 month old little boy is wearing 9-12 months already )
Also, with pacifiers-she said to register for various brands and sizes-because the baby will prefer certain ones over others.
So we registered for like 1 of each, and then whatever likes we'll just run out and buy more of.

Oh yeah, and DEFINITELY get a laundry 101 lesson from your DH....allegedly babies tend to poop and pee through onesies-not to mention spit up! And then there's the classic "blow-out" diapers.... You're going to be doing A LOT of laundry, like it or not

You're definitely going to have to learn to do laundry - once a week with a newborn/baby isn't going to cut it! Or maybe you can use a laundromat with a drop-off service. I don't think 10 onesies is enough, esp. if you're going to be picky and only use carter's ones, because some people may buy you other brands.

keep in mind people will get you bibs, pacis, burp cloths & tons & tons of onsies (not the plain white ones) even if they arent on your registry! i cant tell you how many bibs & onsies i got!
also, newborns spit up like its their job... so if you arent going to slap a bib on them at every feeding, i would recommend buying lots of packages of white onsies (you wont get enough plain white ones at your shower... in fact no one got me any & i registered for them)
i recommend dr brown bottles... and unless you want to be washing bottles all day, i'd get at least 10 (i have 15 which leaves me the option of not washing them right after use b/c it is a PIA!)
HTH

OK, a few things, you will DEF need to know how to do laundry, you will be doing it more than once a week I promise you that!!!
You can't get too many bottles now, bc each baby is differnt and some babies will like bottle a, and some will hate it..so my recommendation is to register for a few 4oz bottles of two different brands to see which bottles your DC will favor more

Re: registry question - this might be more for the btdt moms
I heard the gerber ones shrink and are very small (not true to size). No personal experience on that! But I didn't register for any gerber ones.
We are doing a "design the onesies" at my shower so my friend who's throwing my shower already bought me 25 onesies! I also saw another whole set of plain white onesies was purchased from my registry. They're all different sizes, from some newborn to 12 months, so that's good I think. But I definitely plan to be doing laundry about 2-3 times per week, maybe more if I feel like I need to use a different detergent for the baby's clothes!
I've read to only use a pacifier from 3 months to 6 months and that's IT so I'm going to try to do that depending on how she reacts. I've heard that for those three months, it has shown to reduce the possibility of SIDS (as if anyone knows how to really do that!) but will not interfere with dental development.
At 31, I still bite my nails (DH has been bugging me about it lately... it's not like I'm not trying to stop!!!) so I really, really don't want my daughter to ever start if we can prevent it. Although my parents never used a pacifier with me so maybe it could help? Who knows.

Re: registry question - this might be more for the btdt moms
You will definitely need to do laundry more than once a week. We've been doing a load of baby clothes just about every day. My son is 3 weeks old.
We registered for 8 Carters onesie in each size and that seems to be ok. There are some days where we go through 2 or 3 onesies a day due to pee pee issues we have. With boy, we are quickly learning how to cover and quick change so we don't get peed on.
People will get you so many bibs, blankets, outfits (not the Carters onesies for undershirts) that you will be overwhelmed. I know we certainly were! We're still receiving gifts 3 weeks later!
We chose to use the Playtex drop-ins for bottles. So far we really like them and my son has had no issues adjusting to them. We have 3 4oz bottles and about 6 8oz bottles. Since it's just the liners we use, we don't have to wash bottles all the time. We have a ton of nipples so we only need to wash nipples like once a day. We also use room temperature water so we set the bottles up for the day at one time.
Hope that helps a little.
