Religious Valentine From School

I find it a little odd that a kid would be giving out religious valentines with quotes from the bible at a class v-day party. Am I the only one that finds this odd? Chat Icon

I'd freak out, honestly. They shouldn't be allowed to give those out at a public school.

That is a bit odd....I work in a parochial school & we had a party & none of my kids even brought in religious cards.

Re: Religious Valentine From School

DD is in 1st grade and this one little girl gives religious things on a lot of occasions. I know the Mom and she is so.... nice. It does not really bother me. I figure if nothing else it is an opportunity for DD and I to discuss religion and that different people believe different things. Teach her about tolerance and understanding.

Maybe they bought them by mistake and by the time they realized it was too late to run out for other ones?

I am not shocked bc I have been given them on Halloween as a child. People try to throw their beliefs on you anyway they can. Did anyone say anything...honestly...i probably would have.

DS got one today, it had a little Bible verse and was sorta Precious Moments looking. Only 1 out of 21.

But I am not surprised, nor do I have a problem with it as he does go to a Christian Preschool.

It is Saint Valentine's Day, no?

Don't be surprised, I have had parents send me in booklets and try to get me to convert to become a Jehovah's Witness.

If it's from one of the other students, it wouldn't bother me. Usually a religious message is more heartfelt and puts all of the commercialism into perspective, IMO.

Unless it's a religion that promotes evil of course! Chat Icon

I didn't say anything, and it really doesn't bother me, I was just surprised. The little girl is really sweet. She came to the bday party and her mom was really nice and didn't say a word about religion, so I was just surprised. The envie also had a huge chocolate heart taped to it , I think she is in love with Nicholas Chat Icon Chat Icon

I wouldn't mind. I actually just looked uo the history and I couldn't get it to post, its based on a saint so I think thats all there was to it.

Re: Religious Valentine From School

Wouldn't bother me in the least. My reasoning being that they are innocent little kids..

And those precious moment ones I've seen before, they do usually have a little bible verse but they are cute. Now I personally would refrain from buying them for my kid to give out but it really woudln't bother me for my child to receive one..no matter what religion it is. A lot worse thing could happen in my opinion that the receipt of a religious valentine!

SO CUTE Chat Icon I can't wait till Johnny has a little valentine as long as I'm still has favorite one, lol.

You did the right thing...NOW if it got to a point where everything they gave out was religious I might say something to the mom about how people might start to get offended. But one card I'd let go, especially like others said since it really is a "saint" day.

It wouldn't bother me. I think the way to respect everyone's religion is to learn and celebrate them so this wouldn't bother me-it could open dialog.

If it was ACTUALLY from the school, I would be annoyed (if it was a public school) but if its from another kid, well its okay!

Re: Religious Valentine From School

Considering the celebration St. Valentines day stems from Christianity, then no, I do not find it odd.

What is odd to me is that people can get so offended by reading a bible verse, regardless of their religion (I don't mean you, I mean people in general). Its sad really.

ITA! The holiday originated to honor a SAINT...not for Hallmark to make $$ and for florists to charge ridiculous prices for flowers!
