Remember all the hype about cancer causing chemicals
in bath products? Was there ever a resolution? Did anybody ever get an answer?
What products have you been using, anyone still using Johnson's? I have been using Burt's bees but I miss the johnson's stuff.

Re: Remember all the hype about cancer causing chemicals
it's still going back & forth... there are a lot of chemicals in soaps and shampoos that are "questionable"- b/c of that DD and my whole family uses Burt Bees.. they now released a color safe shampoo & conditioner for us ladies w. dyed hair- that made me v. happy.

Re: Remember all the hype about cancer causing chemicals
I use Aveeno wash & shampoo in one.
I never heard anything about cancer with johnson --- i was told by hospital to use that, but i found the aveeno helped with my baby skin.

Re: Remember all the hype about cancer causing chemicals
Love the Baby Bees line from Burt's Bees. I use it too, and some Aveeno for my face (although I just found out that it is owned by J&J, so I am not certain that I want to continue using them. I might go back to Kiss My Face instead, or make my own face washes....
The problem is these companies have an assessed acceptable loss/risk. What that means, basically, is that they have an allowance for a certain number of losses/injuries/deaths BEFORE it becomes financially acceptable to pull a product from the shelves. Numerous times there have been complaints lodged against a company for danger in their product, yet they continue to produce it because the cost to "cover" a few injuries is minor in relation to the cost to cease and re-vamp production on something that is already rolling out. Call me paranoid, but I do not trust it....even when the FDA is involved. Look at all the drugs they allow to launch despite poor reporting and damaging evidence of lethal side effects.

Re: Remember all the hype about cancer causing chemicals
We've been using California Baby. If she didn't soak in a bubble bath I may not have switched because its not really on you that long but she sits and plays and that made we wonder.

Re: Remember all the hype about cancer causing chemicals
I have been using Johnson and Johnson but never realized this was a problem. Now I have something else to worry about.
ETA: Someone posted this link last August in another post (Link) But rather than just looking at the # on the side, if you click on the product it gives you more details.
What doesnt make sense is California baby bubble bath is rated #2 but yet has other warnings: Ingredients in this product are linked to: Violations, Restrictions & Warnings Allergies/immunotoxicity Other concerns for ingredients used in this product: Organ system toxicity (non-reproductive), Multiple, additive exposure sources, Contamination concerns
It seems the Aveeno is the safest. It is a 0 and seems to have little side effects: Other concerns for ingredients used in this product: Irritation (skin, eyes, or lungs)

this is the big thing people dont realize when they say I will stop using it once its recalled....Its recalled once a LOT has happened, not just one time. All coimpanies have claims depts. with millions of dollars to spend on little day to day issues.
That said I use J & J bedtime bath b/c it works so good, and I only use it maybe 2x a week and will stop when he gets older.
The rest I use California baby or Aveeno.

Re: Remember all the hype about cancer causing chemicals
the stuff with JOhnson and Johnson is that it contains formeldahyde which studies have shown can lead to cancer. Its not listed as formeldahyde on the ingredients list but quaternium-15. If you look up quaternium-15, you will find that it is a preservative that releases formaldehyde.

Re: Remember all the hype about cancer causing chemicals
Reading this stuff quite honestly makes me sick that the manufacturers just don't care. They don't care that they are putting people at risk. Just like all the 'outsourcing' of the toys and look what happened. No one cares and maybe it's the pregnancy hormones but it just makes me sick and depressed that I feel like very time I turn around short of putting my daughter in a bubble there is just too much to keep her from it just seems everything is toxic.
