Renovations...where to start???

DH and I just moved in last month and we have many plans for our home. Where do you begin?? Do you call a contractor and have them look at your place and give you an estimate , etc? We won't be starting til next summer, IF we do that early. My other question is....have a lot of you taken out loans for home improvements?? I feel like the things we want to do many of them should be done at the same time but that is just so much $$$$!! Please help out a beginner

Well.. what to do need/want done?

If you have a lot to do there are some things that are easier, and in the long run, a bit cheaper to do in a certain order.
