Renting DVC points?
Has anyone ever done this? A friend of dh's mentioned it to dh today. I haven't looked into it yet, just wanted to hear others experiences.
All feedback is welcome.
Tia.

Re: Renting DVC points?
Its a very economical way to go to Disneyworld. I own DVC and have "rented" my points for the year several times if I knew I wasn't going to be using them. The going rate is about $12-$15 a point.
We're going for a week in January staying in a studio at the Beach Club Villas. It's 107 points. If I rented those points at $12 a point it would cost $1,284 for a full week at a studio. If you were to pay cash through Disney for the same vacation it would be about $2,700 - it's about $340 a night. The meal plan for DVC members is about $50 a night per adult and then you need parket tickets on top if it.
Just be sure that you check that the person you are renting from is a DVC owner.
Of course, if it is a time of year when Disney is running free meal plans or park tickets, it may not be the cheapest alternative.

Re: Renting DVC points?
Thanks. We priced it out and there is only a $25 dollar difference between renting a villa and actually buying the vaca through Disney. Im just nervous about renting because Im worried about being scammed.
Thanks again.

Re: Renting DVC points?
There is a website you can use to ensure that your reservations are in the system:
dvc reservation checker
Also, you can do a free search with the Orange County Clerk's office to make sure that the person you are renting from does, in fact, own a share in DVC.
I would suggest that anyone who is renting points from someone they don't know do this.
As I said, sometimes it works out cheaper, and sometimes it doesn't.
