Repost - Thank you to all. Donorschoose will double all donations to these NY students until Friday. Wanted to share.
Update 10/8
From 10/8-10-12 Donors Choose will double your donation if the code PUMPKIN is entered. So, if anyone can spare 2.50 it will be doubled to 5 bucks! Any donation will be matched, which will get LeapPads into the hands of my students with special needs! Thank you for reading and sharing.

UPDATE 9/18 click here to see our most recent project and view pics of the students you supported. My students are requesting a few LeapPads for our classroom. We do not have computers for the children to use as of now so they are eager to start using technology! The computer teacher brought one in on the first day and showed me all of the ways they can help my students become proficient readers. They are much more affordable than computers/ipads but are very important learning tools for struggling readers. My entire class is reading below a D and I am hoping to make huge gains by June. Trying to set up these little one for a brighter future! By spreading the word (even if you cannot donate) you are helping more than you realize! Thank you for caring!!!!
My students received back to school supplies this week courtesy of your donations! They were super excited when we were opening everything! I cannot thank everyone enough for all of the support. I updated the donorschoose website with a picture of several of the INCREDIBLE children you are helping! I did not feature the whole class because NOT everyone handed in their permission slips.
I have been working endlessly to make this classroom BEAUTIFUL! Although I am not nearly done, I am happy with the transformation. I hit up a few garage sales this week to get some storage and I found great wood furniture that we are going to paint. I bought 25 of those colored poms and a million things from Really Good Stuff to help organize the kids, library, and classroom. Before and after pictures will come soon!!!
WISHLIST:
A few people asked in FM messages for wish lists. Our classroom is in need of crayola crayons, tissues, computer paper (white and colored), sharpened pencils, folders (15 red, 15 blue, 15 purple, and 15 green). I purchased 96 notebooks from office super savers in those colors which is why we need colored folders. Color coding everything helps my students with special needs function much more smoothly in the classroom.
Also, we need books. Fiction and nonfiction on levels A,B,C,D. I just placed an order from Lakeshore Learning but our library needs a lot of work.

If anyone would like to spread the word, it would be greatly beneficial. I am trying to get my students brand new school supplies and materials to use in the classroom.
The project expires in 19 days ...
$28 is needed on one project and $200 is needed for the other.

I just googled my zip code & a teacher is saying she needs apple TV because they are incorporating the students using their iPads. Meanwhile, yours don't have papers, pens & folders!
Are you on the LI? Can we adopt a student?

I am in St. Albans Queens .... near Elmont/Valley Stream. This was my first year working here after teaching 6 years in Woodside. I thought my former school had limited funds but this takes the cake. We don't have a library =( our auditorium is in rare form. Grants have been written to help remedy this though. Anyway, we really struggle keeping the kids equipped with ALL the tools they need. Truly, the teachers I work with are AMAZING!! We nurture the whole child and I cannot be happier at where I am teaching and the population we serve. My principal and assistant principal do everything they can to support these children. We even have a dental van come to our school :)
What do you mean adopt a child? Do you mean provide them with school supplies? and other materials? I have 12 students actually since it is a self-contained class. I could give you the address if you FM me. However, I will be posting a new project the first day of school. I am letting the children pick out items they want. They will be super excited. I will be happy to inform you when I do.

Also, my most recent project does request LeapPads because technology is really engaging. Also, my students who are chronologically in first/second grade function on all different levels. My next project will feature pictures of these fabulous students. Just need parental permission first!

It is! I encourage educators to sign up! It has changed my life in terms of giving my students access to items they would NEVER have BUT DESERVE!!

Do you take used books? We have a ton from my last year's 3rd & 5th grader!
If you can FM me an address, I'd appreciate it.
Also I posted about used schools supplies on the School Board if you know a school that is desperate.

The charity organization I used to be involved with raised and donated over $40K last year to Donors Choose!!! So glad to see it in use!

WOW! That is incredible!
Thank you to everyone who has supported these projects and has expressed concern! I am going to post before and after pictures of the classroom so you can see how your donations are being used. Thank you messages on Donors Choose will feature the kids with the supplies once they are mailed

I will FM you! This will a fantastic additions to my class. However, I am thinking of letting one of the children take it home. The student has LITTLE support at home and this could be great for a child who has so little!
