Bus Monitor Bullied by Students in Greece, NY
Police and school officials in Greece, NY are investigating a recent video depicting a school bus monitor being brought to tears after being verbally harassed by students. The video, which contains explicit language, was uploaded to YouTube on Tuesday by a user named CapitalTrigga. The user who uploaded it claims to have had no part in the harassment, but put it up "to show the world how f---ed up kids are".
The video has since gone viral, and is sparking outrage online. As of the publication of this story, it has received over 104,000 views.
According to the Democrat and Chronicle, the woman in the video is Karen Klein, a Greece Central School District employee for 23 years; 20 as a bus driver and the last 3 as a bus monitor. Amidst taunts about her weight, destroying her house, physically abusing her, Klein told 13WHAM that the comment that hurt the most was a student who said, "you're so ugly your kid should kill themselves." Her son took his life 10 years ago.
In a local news conference today, Greece Central School District spokeswoman Laurel Heiden read a statement released by district officials.
“Although their behavior was inexcusable, we also have concern for the safety of all involved. We urge patience to allow us to investigate and determine the appropriate discipline," Heiden read. "Students found to be involved will face strong disciplinary action."
District officials also said that Klein did not report the incident to her supervisor.
Reported by YNN Rochester, Officer Steve Chatterton from the Greece Police Department spoke about the impact social media is having on the event.
"We really have to focus on fact, and we are very concerned about (their) safety. These are most likely 12, 13, 14-year-old kids. There's people that are posting their addresses online, so we as a police department are concerned about that. There's people that are showing up here angry. We understand that. Give us time to look into the investigation. Please don't jump to conclusions.”
The user submitted content site, Reddit, has made a call to arms with a thread about this video. One of the users has created a fundraiser to give Klein the "vacation of a lifetime" has been created, which has doubled its goal of $5,000 in less than 24 hours, and is now approaching $60,000. A Facebook page called Kindness for Karen has also been created to leave messages for Klein.
The bus is reported to have been carrying all middle school students at the time, all juveniles. Student names have not been released at this time.

It's amazing how cruel kids can be

OMG that is TERRIBLE
I'm sorry but seriously I think parenting DOES have to be questioned here. I mean that is just beyond terrible. I have called my teachers bad names and made fun of them but never to their face, never to hurt them like that, never to make one cry and never to just sit back and watch a human suffer at my own entertainment.
What is WRONG with this world.

I am completely disgusted and could only get through the first 3 min. That one nasty little kid who kept touching that poor woman, ugh, God forgive me, but I hope his fingers get broken one day. And the rest of them need to be expelled with this incidence on their record for colleges to see. Vile little bastards.

That was awful! Those kids are disgusting. I don't even know what I would do if these were my kids. They really have NO RESPECT, NO FEAR, NO ANYTHING. I am at a loss for words for how horrible that was. i have some questions: Why didn't the driver stop the bus and say anything? Why would they really think their peers would want to see kids basically abusing what could be there own grandmother. UGH!

That was disgusting!!! I always hated when I saw teachers getting made fun of by students. Some kids where so mean and would curse right in the teachers face. I never understood how someone could act like that.
Theses kids better get what they deserve. They need to be taught a hard lesson.

I only watched a few seconds and had to turn it off. I am literally sick to my stomach thinking about this woman. I am also sick just thinking about how ANYONE could talk to a completely innocent person like this. Absolutely disgusting. i hope these kids are expelled and brought up on harassment charges.

It is, indeed, disgusting. I had a client who was a school bus monitor and he was taunted often. He was just a nice older gentleman. He got hurt on the job helping a kid who had a broken arm. In this case I have no idea why the bus driver did not stop unless the driver didn't hear this. In spite of my opinion that this is disgusting, if my minor child had such a transgression in judgment as to participate in this, I would be irate if his name was published online. I would have my child write an apology letter but then I would do everything in my power to get his name off youtube. I would, if I were her, ask for prosecution not just for the taunting but for the threats these kids make about using knives and "beating her a$$." Yes, that is different to me than having his name online where it can remain forever. Online no one is really innocent until proven guilty. I LIKE the handbag that they are making fun of!
ETA: There is a youtube interview of her. When the interviwer asked if she would like like letters of apology, she said yes. The interviewer asked what she would want the kids to say. She said that she'd want them to say that they were wrong and that they won't do it to anyone else. I aqree to making them promise not to do this to anyone else. Good for her for thinking of whoever else they may encounter next school year or wherever. I still like the handbag.

This brought me to tears. These children are evil and cruel. They and their parents should be ashamed of themselves.
As someone who is overweight, this sort of behavior from people, both kids and adults, is a constant worry of mine.

I can't watch the video because it just sounds heartbreaking.
However, I hope those kids get taught a MAJOR lesson here and learn big time from it.
I blame the parents for kids acting like this. This clearly isn't the first incident so I'm sure they are all well aware of what their children were/are doing.
Obviously, no one took it upon themselves to put their kids in their place - they must have drank the "my kid would NEVER do that" juice

Kudos to her for not slapping those kids silly, especially the one who kept touching her. I know it's difficult but you have to develop a thick skin in cases like that - I mean really, who cares what some punk ass tweens think anyway? She seems like a sweet older woman who definitely doesn't deserve to be treated this way. The kids deserve what they get. I think they need someone other than the parents to discipline them because apparently the parents either can't handle them, don't care or aren't doing such a great job. I'm glad the fund is growing for her - maybe she can retire early and get a job that is more pleasant.

Exactly! I feel like there will be no consequences to this for some reason.
And that's the issue.
There needs to be harsher consequences for actions like this.

Those psychopaths were RELENTLESS. It's absolutley disgusting. This wasn't a one-time occurance, I cannot believe Karen had the strength to keep going back to be tortured by these little shits. I hope somoene teaches them a very, very strong lesson.

they should be more than suspended for that outrageous behavior. there should be criminal charges, and they should be left back. truly disgusting. i give that woman props for showing such amazing restraint.
