REPOST : Appropiate Corp Behavior
So I did not end up going to this cake celebration. After I was told I should not particpiate I did not think it was appropiate to go. I feel terrible. I sent her an email telling her good luck. It just stinks because she planned my celebration for me when I was getting married. I really grumpy over this.
I feel like certain higher ups are looking at me differently too over this. I don't know I get a weird vibe from one...not sure what to think.
Original POST : Appropiate Corp Behavior
I was told that I should not participate in any office celebrations i.e. birthday , showers etc. Yes my title is manager but I do not manage one single person.
I am just a little mad because I sit and watch inappropriate behavior all the time, i.e. going out to strip clubs, drinking to much, inappropriate comments (I am usually the only woman at meetings where these comments are made) but me celebrating a person's birthday is not ok? I don't understand.

I'm be ticked off too. I read your original post and still dont understand why the harm is in letting you get a piece of cake and give your well wishes. Personally I think THIS is appropriate corp. behavior. It boost morale and makes people want to do a better job.

Re: REPOST : Appropiate Corp Behavior
i do not understand that at all...how odd. but i don't understand a lot about the corporate world and i'm going thru something similiar w/my boss. there are rules (which i am convinced she's making up out of nowhere) that she swears is company policy and yet they only apply to me.
For example:
1. We held a week-long conference in Vegas in August. I asked off for two days the week after and she told me there was a company rule about not taking off the week after that conference (it's annual.) BUT, I'd say at LEAST 50% of the company - including her - took off at least one day that week.
2. We have bottled water in the fridge in our office. The VP of the company told the office manager to order it for everyone. My boss told me that its only for guests and I should not take any.
