Repost from Careers, I need advise QUICK!
The situation is ... I have been at my current job for 6 months.... I took a pay cut to come here because I was promised the world... Now 6 months later I have not gotten what I have been promised and have been job hunting. I found a position that I was offered making the salary I want plus........... And they want me to start right away.... Now do I respect my currrent employer and give him the 2 weeks I'm supposed to or do I shaft him like he's been doing to me for the last 6 months and tell him my last day will be Friday....???? Advise PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!

Re: Repost from Careers, I need advise QUICK!
I would give them two weeks. I would think that the new employer would think less of you if you didn't, no? Plus, you don't want a bad reference or a gap of 6 months on your resume.

Don't burn your bridges. Give the 2 weeks. Most likely, they won't keep you there anyway.

ITA. I think it shows that you respect your current employer.

ITA--You never know who you will run into again later. 2 Weeks is acceptable and the new employer will definitely understand that.

I agree with the other ladies....UNLESS you not being able to start immediately is a deal-breaker in you getting the new job.
Congrats, BTW!

I'd be VERY concerned if it were a deal breaker. I'd question any employer who didn't think you needed to have the courtesy to give 2 weeks notice to your current job.

I agree, I was just saying if it was (ie. if there was a particular training program or something that the employee needed to be in attendance for) than I would have to consider the two weeks.
