Repost- Skilled Nursing Facilities / Rehabilitations
May be a long shot, but I am looking into a nursing/rehab for my grandfather, he had a stroke and now needs rehab and then may need long term care... anyone heard of any that are particularly good? We live in massapequa, so would like something not tooo far... Anyone hear of Belair Care Center in Bellmore, or Broadlawn manor in Amityville? TIA!!

My great-grandma was in Belair YEARS ago, it was supposed to be great then but don't know what it is like now.
Glengariff in Glen Cove is pretty good, but it's a bit of a drive.

Sorry I can't recommend one but I can tell you one to stay away from. My MIL is in one now in Franklin Square, the Garden Care Center. The care is not that great.

Re: Repost- Skilled Nursing Facilities / Rehabilitations
My father was in St. Johnland in Kings Park for 4 months after a massive stoke. They were AWESOME!!! It is a small ward, specialized Head Trauma unit, and has only about 20 beds. It is a beautiful facility and is a separate wing of the building. I can't say enough about the staff that was there. The ratio of staff to patient is very low as well. He really got excellent care and the communications between them and myself (and family) were excellent.
So many places call themselves acute care because that is where the health insurance reimbursement $$$$ is. Really, they are just nursing homes that open a wing because it's a lucrative therapy right now (unfortunately). I saw places that I wouldn't let my dog live in.
St. Johnland was so clean, smelled great, great staff, private rooms (but attached bathroom) but they are covered as semi-private under most insurance.
I wish you luck

I know one in huntington - called Hilaire - it is not very large an old masion - the staff is very nice to my grandmother - there are many doctors that see patients there and thePT people are very good at getting my grandma to walk after all her surgeries
