Restaurant and other things to do around Dutch Wonderland..

We are going to see Thomas train this weekend in Strausburg. PA this weekend and we are also going to:
-Dutch Wonderland
-choo train barn
-Stausburg railroad museum

I have never been and I am so excited for my DS (2.5 yrs old) who is obsessed with trains!

What are some other "Must-Do's" in the area?

Also what are some "must do" restaurants in the area?

Thanks! Chat Icon

I really really enjoyed Millers Smorgasbord...It was just a little down the road from Dutch Wonderland....

I HIGHLY reccomend Cherry Crest Farms...So much fun and I think my kids enjoyed it just as much as Dutch Wonderland !! You can take the train to see Thomas right from Cherry Crest Farm (and vice versa I believe) ...They are close Sundays, thats the only snafu Chat Icon

Good n Plenty for some authentic amish food

There's a new hibachi restaurant across from DW that is pretty good although they didn't have their liquor license yet when we went in June, but you can BYOB.

Hands on House was such a great place!

Of all the reasonably priced places we ate near there, my fav was Hershey Farm, but to be honest it was the equivalent of diner food.

I don't like franchise restaurants. Call me a restaurant snob. After a couple of really bland meals, we decided to drive into the town. Country dining was really not for us, not the way it was done in Lancaster. I've had amazing country food almost anywhere else we've traveled Lancaster was a sore disappointment in this department.

So we did tried "city dining"

We loved Prince Street Cafe for breakfasts and lunches they serve AMAZING coffee.

We splurged on our last night and had dinner at Gibraltar - it was such a pleasure! They serve organic chicken, and menu was very interesting. They have a very good kids menu. We all were very happy here.

If you are picky about where you eat, check Yelp reviews. And where it says "good for kids:no" it means if your kids don't behave in restaurants don't bring them Chat Icon DS was good everywhere we brought him. Even the 2 hours we spent in Gibraltar.

IF you are just looking for basic restaurants, there is an Applebees just down the street form DW. Basically there is a ton in the area so you really wont have to worry.

Add to your list the Cherry crest farms, it was alot of fun. You could easily spend 1/2 a day there.

PS, DH and I enjoyed choo choo barn even more than DS
