rice in bottle question....
For those that put the rice cereal in the bottles... do you add the rice to the bottle at each feeding or do you set up all the bottles at once with the formula and rice and put in the fridge??? Can the rice be added and then stored in the fridge and then just heat and feed as normal??? : Thanks!

Re: rice in bottle question....
Doctors only recommend putting cereal in the bottle if your baby has reflux -- unless your doctor has recommended it, it's not a good idea. It won't help your baby sleep and it is a choking hazard.
So, I really can't answer your question because I've never done it.

Re: rice in bottle question....
I have been adding 2 tsp. cereal to DS's bottles since he was a little less than 3 months. He was drinking too much formula and it was unhealthy for him plus it also helped with a little reflux he was developing. I use RTF and I don't heat DS's bottles. I use the drop-ins so I usually would just run it under warm water to take the chill out. I put 2 tsp. cereal in the bottle, than add the formula, shake well and serve
ETA: I NEVER had a problem with adding cereal to his bottled. I don't understand the whole choking hazard b/c if you shake the bottle after you add the cereal, it doesnt clump. Plus, the hole in the nipple isn't big enough for a big clump to get through. I had to make the nipples in the bottled bigger using a fork.

Re: rice in bottle question....
Ok.. I had to reread my Original post becouse I got 2 responses on how not to put rice in the bottle unless rec by the Dr. for reflux and that it can cause choking. I only asked those who HAVE put cereal in the bottles if you can add the rice to multiple bottles at once and store in fridge or you have to add the rice in each bottle at the time of feeding only. I was advised by her Dr. to add a little rice cereal for DD's reflux. wanting her to sleep is not the issue. Sorry for the confusion

I only add the cereal to the bottle right before DS drinks them. I put the cereal in first, and than add the formula. If I am out and have the formula in the bottles already, I add the cereal and kind of swirl it around until it "sinks" and than shake the bottle to keep the cereal from clumping in the nipple.

Oh ok... thanks. I wasn't sure. I like to set all the bottles up for the day and have them all ready to go in fridge. I guess I will just add as a feed. Thank you
