Right before your child starts to walk could they...
(1) stand in one spot and keep their balance without holding on to anything? If so, just for a few seconds or did they pretty much know how to stay balanced for longer periods of time without holding onto something?
(2) if they were lying on their back flat could they do a sit up? Like with no arms helping lift off the floor.
(3) get to a standing position by themselves without pulling up onto something? Like as if they were in the middle of a room with nothing surrounding them, could they get themselves to a stand position and stand up balanced by themselves?
If they couldn't, how long after their first steps did they learn to do these things?
Just trying to gauge where my guy is at.
Thanks!!!

1- that happened like a few days before he started to walk
2-No, always needed arms to help him up.
3-a few days before he stated walking
And he started walking at 13 and 1/2 months.

Re: Right before your child starts to walk could they...
(1) only could stand alone for a few seconds without holding something.
(2) no, she rolls to her side and then gets up... i dont think she goes from lying flat on back to sit up position just using stomach muscles.
(3) no, she learned to stand up by herself a couple of weeks later after walking on own.
If they couldn't, how long after their first steps did they learn to do these things? #1,3-- 2-3 weeks after walking on own without assistance. #2.. i dont think she does that.
dd-started cruising about 10-11 months, officially walking on own by herself 11months.. but really walking well and practically running 1 year old (on her actual b-day she took off)

1. she balanced for a while on her own without holding onto things
2. yes, could sit up totally on her own
3. pulled up to stand mostly to walk...learned how to stand up without using anything a couple of weeks after she started walking

Re: Right before your child starts to walk could they...
thanks ladies.
For the sit-up thing...DS has issues with trunk strength so the reason I asked was because I wasn't sure if he was supposed to be able to do that and doesn't because of the trunk issue or if all kiddies can't because of the muscle strength required that a toddler, in general, wouldn't have. Thanks again!!!! This is insightful!

1. she was able to stand for a few seconds- maybe 10 at the most. I was actually really surprised when she started walking, since she wasnt able to do this better
2. no. still cant, after 3 weeks of walking
3. yes. she was able to push up off the floor with her hands from a squat

Re: Right before your child starts to walk could they...
No pretty much to it all. He had held his balance for like 3 sec may 2-3 times before he started walking. He couldn't do a complete sit up without using his arms. He couldn't stand on his own without using something to get up. Within 2 weeks of really starting to walk, he started doing some of those other things. I think it took a good month for him to get it all down.
