Right leg/foot going numb during long run?

The past 2 times I've run I've noticed that about 20 - 30 minutes into my run my right foot and leg goes numb and my foot has a weird tingling sensation. It's so uncomfortable I have to stop running.

I recently bought new running shoes and I'm wondering if that has anything to do with it. Anyone ever experience this?? It's driving me crazy and it's making it very hard to make any progress running since I have to stop. The numbness and tingling goes away as soon as I stop running though. Chat Icon

It might not be the same thing, but I used to get numbness in my toes/ball of the foot and was diagnosed with Morton's neuroma. I just had to put special pads in my shoes and I don't get it anymore.

Maybe you are tying your shoes too tight? If that doesn't help I'd see a doctor.

I'm going to try to loosen my laces today when I run. I'm thinking I might be cutting off circulation to my feet or something.

With the Morton's Neuroma did you have the numbness all the time or only when running?

It can definitely be your sneakers. If your sneakers are not the proper ones for your feet it can cause your feet to feel numb and get that tingle feeling. I would suggest going to a running store and talking to them about what kind of shoe is good for your foot.

If it happened right after getting new shoes, that sounds like the suspect. Did you get the shoes at a specialty store? You can usually bring them back and tell them and they'll help you get new ones.

but I have never had numbness, so I can speak too much about it.

The first few weeks after I bought new running shoes from a specialty store, at least one foot got numb and/or tingly 20-30 minutes into my run. Once I broke them in, everything was fine.

The numbness was only while running and would go away pretty quickly after stopping.

The numbness happened to me, in the balls of both feet & my toes... it was so uncomfortable but went away as soon as I would stop running.

For me it was the shoes. It took me forever to figure it out & the doctors couldn't figure out the problem either-- then I bought a pair of sneakers with really good arch support & have not had this problem since wearing them. In the future when I buy new sneakers I need to always buy ones with excellent arch support.
