massively swollen leg and ankle starting to feel numb. help!
my left calf, ankle and foot are MASSIVE. it looks like an elephant's leg.
it's been like this for a few days but just recently it started going numb (like 20 minutes ago). i put a call into my doctor and am waiting for his call back.
i've been keeping it elevated, not adding any extra salt into my diet and drinking massive amounts of water.
any other ideas???

You sound like you are doing everything right. Are you able to check your blood pressure? I hope you get answers asap and feel better soon!!

Happens to me on my right side typically. My doc said the warm weather just makes it worse. Drink lots of fluids and keep your feet elevated above your heart (lay down and elevate).

How would you know if it's a clot? Just curious because my right ankle is swollen and my knee on the same side is partially numb but my OB didn't seem too concerned about it. Actually, now that I think of it I never told her part of my knee is numb.
As for you browneyedgirl, it does sound like your doing everything right just let your doctor know about it. How is your blood pressure?

I would go to the ER if you don't hear back from them soon. If it is a blood clot you don't want to mess around. I really hope it's not, but you shouldn't take any chances at this point. Hope you feel better

I am not sure I believe asymmetry is a hint (one leg being swollen while the other is fine).
All I know is that you need to image the leg with some sort of contrast dye (so they see the vessels) in order to truly determine if it's a clot...
here's some online info about leg swelling during pregnancy, and when you should really see your Dr. asymmetric swelling calls for a Dr visit......

Re: massively swollen leg and ankle starting to feel numb. help!
thanks for the advice ladies.
i talked to my doctor. he's not concerned and said it's normal but not common. as long as i don't have pain or pins and needles i'm okay.
the reason why it's in one leg is probably because i have a preexisting problem with that leg. normally it's the right leg that's swollen in pregnancy and mine is fine. since it's only one leg it's not circulatory.
he said i'm doing everything right. i just have to keep it elevated and add ice on and off. i wasn't scared--just concerned because i'd never heard of that before and had no idea if it was "normal". i figured i'd rather be safe than sorry.
thanks again!
