Ripping down an above-ground pool?
Anyone ever had an above ground pool removed? Do you know how expensive that might get?
We're not "pool" people and don't plan on having a family. We'd rather not have the extra expense of it either.
Right now, having a pool on the property is a turn-off to houses we look at.
But if everything else is perfect, we would consider ripping it down later if we bought a house with it. We just don't know if it's

We used to have one at my parents house, my dad pretty much ripped it down by himself. It was hard work but didn't cost anything. He planted grass where the pool was, you wouldn't even know it was ever there.

same for me. we had one, my mom took it down when we got older and didnt use it. draining it is a PITA - but other than that its just tearing it down and putting new grass

Re: Ripping down an above-ground pool?
It's easy...we did it when we bought our house. After it's drained just take the lining out and if you are just going to chuck it, you can rip the supports off and it will come down.
Only extra note...check in the ground for cinder blocks or support blocks...we didn't know they were there until we went to plant grass.
And we left the electrical box where it is and use it for our patio table.

Re: Ripping down an above-ground pool?
We ripped one out of our backyard ourselves, and then the landscaper put down topsoil and seed.
It was a lot of work, but the landscaper wanted about $1000 to do it. Took us 2 weekends, but I'm sure that if we weren't so inept we could have finished in 1 weekend.

Same here. My Dad did it years ago.
If you are not going to be using the electrical you may need an electrician to properly abandon the underground wires. The house we bought had a pool filled in years ago but the inspector found that the owner never properly abandoned the electrical wire. The previous owner had to pay for that before the sale could proceed.
Of course, if the house is being sold with the pool, then abandoning of the electrical would fall to you.

Re: Ripping down an above-ground pool?
Thank you! I guess I just thought it would be too sturdy a thing to do ourselves, considering it has to be strong enough to hold gallons upon gallons of water.
My brother in law is an electrician, and very generous to boot, so that's surely a bonus!

Just a thought, but maybe you could make your offer contigent on the removal of the pool. In this market, if they want the sale, this very well may work. I would give it a shot.

Re: Ripping down an above-ground pool?
My house had a pool when I bought it and I didn't want it. I put an ad in a local paper with a great price, and told them they had to take it down. The day the ad came out I had six people call about it - the first guy took it. He took it down, took all the parts and all the accessories and gave me my money. If it's in good shape, you should definitely try this.
