"road trip" vacation - gettsburg, salem, north carolina
anyone been to any of these 3 destinations? i'm thinking of maybe planning a getaway for our 1-year anniversary. we can't afford a major vaca and dh hates to fly, so these were the ideas i have running through my head. just for like a 4 day getaway maybe. thoughts, ideas, suggestions, stories. tell me anything and everything! thanks!

well... my parents have a beach house down on the outer banks of NC- and its great there! sooo peaceful and relaxing! you can go to the wright brothers first flight museum at kitty hawk and go up the cape hatteras lighthouse, and just hang out on the beach for a few days.... where my parents are its mostly houses that you rent for a full week, but in other areas i'm sure you could find a hotel room for a long weekend....

i saw some nice bed and breakfasts... thing is, i'm looking for october. so the beach is kinda out.

Gettysburg,PA is nice because the drive isn't bad!! And you could maybe spend a day or 2 in Philly (LOTS to see there) then continue for a day or 2 to Gettysburg! Even Hershey on the off season is nice!! The trolley tour of Hershey was very interesting!
We do PA at leats once a year for this kind of thing!

I wouldn't do Philly and Gettysburg in the same trip, they are way out of the way from each other. BUT I would do Gettysburg and Hershey.
This is a nice time of year down there, it is a little warmer than here. There are quite a few moderately priced, clean motels. Just watch out for graduation from the college (I believe the second weekend in May) because you will NOT get a room ANYWHERE.
Town is cute, and you can take a bunch of fun tours, like the Ghost Tour, etc. Also, just outside of Gettysburg there is a small outlet mall.
