Re: Robert Mayer? Any info
I find is interesting that the wife was an attorney who was disbarred: "In March of2007, D' Angelo pleaded guilty in the Supreme Court , Kings County, to one count of falsifying business records in the first degree arising out of an unrelated, so-called straw " buyer scheme intended to defraud lending banks (see violation of Penal Law 9 175.1 0) - a class " E" felony. D'Angelo was subsequently disbarred by the Appellate Division, Second Department (see , In re D'Angelo 53 AD3d 29)."

Crazy. Remember that man recently who faked his own disappearance to collect on the insurance money? After a certain amount of time, they declare the person deceased. Hate to speculate, but it's possible.....

Doesnt it take a really long time to declare someone dead (especially if the police do not suspect foul play)?
I have lost hours today combing throgh all the theories on that webslueths site and am baffled as ever

I believe that it takes 3 years for a missing person to be able to be declared dead (in NY at least).

I know this is a crazy theory but, could the wife have had something to do with it? It's just odd she's not home when she's supposed to be, & He or his abductor comes to the house in that small window of time?
This is what I have been thinking..

Re: Robert Mayer? Any info
Hours and hours...ok...days...I have been pondering this....
There are not many "verified" facts.
I would like to know what an average Local 3 Electrican foreman makes a year...anyone know?
There are only a handful of reasons to stop home...to pick something up...drop something off...pee...
If your husband is an hour late from work, and unless you have reason to believe he had stopped home, would you start seachring the house looking for a wallet?
If you were going to take a bike ride, wouldn't you change your clothes?

I'm pretty sure they pay into a furlough fund while they are working so it isn't completely unpaid.

Re: Robert Mayer? Any info
new article on huffington post...
interesting..:
"In the scrap yard surveillance photo he looks like something is wrong. His looks worried and the look on his face haunts me," Ida Mayer said.
"I can speculate until the cows come home, but I know he had a really nervous energy about him in the days before he disappeared," she said. "The kids were studying for finals at the time, so all my focus was on them"

That's the first time I have heard her say that. She didn't mention any worry when she talked about their phone conversation where they discussed their vacation, etc.
I wonder if they will release the video from the scrap yard.

Re: Robert Mayer? Any info
i find is annoying that there are inconsistancies in this story.
"Mayer last saw her husband when he left for work on the morning of June 14, in his red 2004 Pontiac GTO."
The FB page says: "I don't know if he was running late. He may have been rushing out/ don't know; I was sleeping - it was 4:30 in the morning. "
So did she see him that morning or not?
===== "The neighbor's video footage prompted Mayer's wife to search their home for clues. In a drawer, she found his cell phone, wallet and about $300 cash. All of the items had been with Mayer on the day of his disappearance, suggesting he or whoever had been driving his vehicle had placed them in the drawer."
the FB page says: "Rob’s wallet was found in the garage around 4pm on June 14th, after Ida realized he was late in coming home. At that time, $300.00 was also found in a drawer in the garage."
"Rob’s wallet was found in the garage around 4pm on June 14th, after Ida realized he was late in coming home. At that time, $300.00 was also found in a drawer in the garage." ============== "Roughly one week after Robert Mayer disappeared, one of his neighbors discovered the missing man's car had been captured by his security camera on the afternoon of his disappearance. The video does not show the inside of the vehicle, but it does show the car pulling into the Mayer's driveway at about 2:40 p.m. The vehicle leaves approximately 10 minutes later. Mayer’s wife is captured arriving in her vehicle at about 3 p.m."
I have a hard time understanding how they can tell anything about who or what was in the car and yet they see IDA coming home. I am certain that an earlier report states that they could not even confirm that it was HIS car only a red something.
And as if I have all the free time in the world I have officially joined that webslueths website This case is going to drive me mad.

I got sucked into that site a few weeks ago!! I want to go back but it's hard to stop reading once they get you.
I remember them saying they just captured some red. Maybe Ida has an SUV so it captured more? Or maybe she came from a different direction. Who knows. It's really sad situation. I think he left.

Robert Mayer? Any info
It sounds like all the initial information or clues ended up wrong, as domino pointed out.
I didn't join web sleuths, but I saw a few new posters there and I had feeling they were from LIF
As an aside, a lot of those posters are from out of state. It was interesting to read how some were shocked at the Mayer's property taxes. Then someone explained how LI is really expensive.. And some didn't get the whole train system at all. So you have to wade through a lot of those posts - but still interesting to see how people can't fathom paying 20k in property taxes.
I'm also thinking more about Big Brother based on this case. I'm sort of in the camp of no surveillance but sometimes I don't mind it, because if you're not up to anything, who cares? But then I struggle with the invasion of privacy. Then again.. If all train stations had cameras in the lots AND the train cars, there'd be more info to go on. So I don't know.
If the wife had something to do with it - why would she be pushing for an investigation? That wouldn't be typical behavior.
I do feel like the police have more info and are biding their time .. As many have said, Suffolk PD is notoriously tight-lipped.
I still think its strange - if he did bail, why deposit your cash into the garage you just received? Unless it was to throw people off... But to come home during a time your wife would be usually be home is odd. And wouldn't you take your sleep apnea machine?
I know it's easy to think he just left .. But picture your own spouse. If he or she just disappeared and many thought they just bailed - knowing your own spouse - would you believe it? I wouldn't.
The whole thing is just so weird. Haunting.

Also - the part about him texting someone - a male - that his wife didn't want him texting and thought he wasn't .. And then records reveal he was in contact with this mystery person .. That's an interesting tid bit.

I wonder if he or his abductor purposely chose that station due to lack of video surveillance.

Good point
Also - I wonder if they hired a PI. Can you hire one if there is already an investigation being conducted by law enforcement?
Not even sure if they (police) view this as a case, being that they don't suspect foul play (or so they say).

I sorta think he bailed but I haven't 100% ruled out him being killed by someone he wronged or owed money to.
I think the stopping at home could have been to throw people off, which clearly it has. People seem to get hung up on that detail. I also think it's really weird that his wife started going through the garage for clues. Unless he spent a lot of time there, why would she start looking there? I don't think the garage would even occur to me . . .
As far as thinking he'd take his sleep apnea machine- I would think he 100% would not take it. That would be a dead giveaway that he had ran away (assuming he doesn't want people to think that).
eta- I think as far as thinking your husband ran out and not believing it, I don't know. I think a woman is fairly unlikely to ditch her children, I think we have more of an instinct to not be able to do this. I really do think that men don't have the same 'obligation' (for lack of a better term) that we do. Look at how many dead beat dads there are out there. You really don't hear of this with women nearly as often.
I just don't think it sounds that unlikely for a man who might be secretly unhappy to decide to ditch his family. I do hope this isn't the case though becuase that is really a disgusting thing to do.

I know some here were following the websleuth's board.......looks like the admin deemed it a "cold case" and closed it until new info crops up...
not sure of how websleuth's site works, but it's a shame they closed it.
i'm not in the dix hills area - but are there still flyers up? do the locals know of this case?
so bizarre.
