Roof question
Is it illegal to have a 3rd layer of roof? I'm sure it isn't a good idea either way.
The previous owner had the roof done before we bought the place 3 years ago. We thought it was only 2 layers. We have a leak around the chimmney and now possibly one around a skylight.
I just had a roofer here who showed me what a terrible job was done with a third layer of roof that was put on. He wasn't trying to rip me off and I clearly see the problems he pointed out. I think we may need a new roof and one skylight. UGH!

Re: Roof question
I dont think its "illegal" but its dangerous. the weight of a 3rd layer on the roof can cause damage to the joists and rafters.

Re: Roof question
most roofers only like to put 2 layers on, but some will put 3 layers. Even though it's costly to replace, you are better off doing it now before anymore damage is done to your house. It was the first thing we had to do in our house last year, but it was worth the money. GL!
