Room temperature of nursery?

What temperature do you keep you DC room? I have noticed that my DD has been slightly stuffy when she wakes up but shortly after it is gone so I know htat it is not a cold. I was thinking that I have the heat too high. I keep it at 70. Does anyone else notice this as well?

Re: Room temperature of nursery?

'The experts' say that the cooler the room the better people sleep- babies especially. I would get a portable fan (if you don't have an overhead fan) and have it going all the time, as it has been studied to reduce the likelihood of SIDS. Put the fan in a place that will help circulate the air in the room, not pointed directly at the baby. According to some research I found a quote from Dr. Sears:

"As a general guide, a sleeping environment temperature of around 68 degrees Fahrenheit (20 degrees celsius) is preferable. Preterm infants or newborns weighing less than eight pounds may require a temperature a few degrees higher. Healthy, term newborns weighing more than eight pounds usually have sufficient body fat and mature enough temperature-regulating mechanisms to allow them to sleep comfortably in a room temperature that you find comfortable."

It's good, then, to have a room thermometer by baby's crib to monitor the actual temperature in the room (you can't assume that every room will be at the thermostat temperature). HTH!

Re: Room temperature of nursery?

Our thermostat is down to 62 at night -
Since I was a baby I couldn't sleep if it was too warm and the Ped told my parents to keep the house cool .......
As an adult I can't sleep if it's warmer than 62 - Once the heat kicks on in the AM, I immediately wake up (and it only goes up to 65)

Sean is also a warm kid - and like me, doesn't sleep well if it's too warm in his room .....

Re: Room temperature of nursery?

DD has a separate heating unit in her room. I keep it set at 66 degrees and the temp in her room is usually 68-70 (since a little bit of heat from the house makes it into her room)
