Round dinette tables in an eat-in kitchen....
The house we're buying has room for a round dinette table. I cannot decide which size table to buy for the spot, 42 inch round or 48 inch round? It's surprising how much bigger the larger one is!
We're a family of 4 - do you think the smaller size would be too cramped for meals?
The table we have now is going into the dining room and it's rectangular.

Re: Round dinette tables in an eat-in kitchen....
We have a 42" round kitchen table. Four people can definitely fit comfortably, but if you plan to put platters on the table as well as dinner plates, it might get a little tight.
If you have room for the 48" without it getting cramped, I'd go that route.
I can do a test tonight with some plates and platters and glasses etc. and let you know how it goes!

What size is the space for it to go? My space is 9x10 and I have a 48 round. It can get a little tight getting in and out of the seats but is doable. I cant imagine a smaller table though.

I am mad I didn't measure the table the last time I was in the house! I do know that the table the seller has in there now is 42 in. I think there would be enough room - I'll try and post a pic but it may be hard to tell.

I would call the realtor and ask them to ask the homeowner what is the measurement of the space, and of the table. You need to know, they should be able to tell you that.

I'd stick with a 42", it looks like a 48" might be tight. I hate furniture that's too big for the room!
Would it make more sense to go rectangular? I can't tell how much space you have on the other side.
Nice kitchen, btw!

Re: Round dinette tables in an eat-in kitchen....
I have a 42" and IMO its too small for 4 IF you eat there every night for dinner and if you put stuff on the table. Each night the 3 of us sit together and that 4th placesetting is where we put the veggies or iced tea or rolls etc. It gets crowded quickly.
Also if you want table cloths a 70" round is too big for a 42" but 60" table cloths arent east to find.
ETA: MY SIL has the 48" and we can fit 5 people around her table with a platter in the center.

I would definitely go with 48. It looks like the one in the picture is 48. 42 is pretty small - i think 48 is good for family dinners, etc.

Re: Round dinette tables in an eat-in kitchen....
Thanks all!
I found out the table they have now is a 42in - I think we're going to go with the larger one. I still prefer round tables because I like the pedestal look underneath most round tables have

If you have room for the larger one, I would go with that. More room never hurts, esp if you like to serve from the table, or will want to when the kids are older.
Congrats BTW!!! Send me a link if there is one, I passed your house the other day and was happy for you. Of course like my dilemma, the timing is never when a nearby property is at it's worst

Liz - do you mean my next door neighbor? I'm just happy the boards are off I wouldn't buy it, but it looks a hell of a lot better than it did 2 mths ago
The house near you seems to be taking forever! But it looks really nice!
