In the first picture, Kate looks as if she's painfully forcing a smile. She looks amazing though 
I love the new Netflix series, "the Crown" and I can't believe that's the same queen as portrayed in this show...

The Crown is a really interesting show!
I am not digging the mens' pants though I am sure there is some good reason/tradition behind them. William reminds me of Mr Tumnus from The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe.

The sashes relate to the Order of the Garter and the Royal Victorian Order. Kate has not been awarded one yet by the Queen. I read she gives them out sparingly.

Omg, they totally do!! 
And I agree about the mens' pants. Then I zoomed in and saw they are actually wearing tights and patent leather shoes with bows on top.

..and prob dont need it... her red dress stands out in the pic very nicely
