RSoNY Patients - a question
I've only been to the office 3 times, but I'm kind of disappointed with the way things are run. I go to the Mineola office.
- The girls at the front desk were supposed to get test results from my OB-GYN 3 different times, had me sign all the paperwork, and forgot or misplaced the request all three times. The second time, the girl gave me the paperwork authorizing the release of my info, I gave it in to her, and 5 minutes later I reminded her about it (since she had forgotten the request the first time). She actually told me, "oh! I just threw that release in the trash! Why, did you need test results faxed over?" I finally drove to my OB-GYN, photocopied the test results (which they had no records of a request for), and walked them in.
- Today they had me go in for a sono to check on an ovarian cyst. The sono tech told me it was gone (Hooray!). Then they had me wait for about 50 minutes to see Dr. Kane. She took me into the office, asked me my cell number, and told me that Dr. Sung would call me tomorrow to discuss my course of treatment. WHY did I have to wait almost an hour for that? Is that normal?
I also hate that feeling of being herded in like cattle with all the other women/couples there from one waiting room to another. I guess it streamlines the process but I find it all so impersonal; it makes me feel like just a number. A number who is often disregarded and forgotten about. This whole process is so scary and hard, I guess I just wish the whole thing were a little friendlier and more personal. And that they didn't keep forgetting about me and throwing my stuff in the trash.

Re: RSoNY Patients - a question
I'm so sorry you had that experience there. I've never had a bad experience like that there - in fact, just the opposite. they've always been super when they handle the paperwork and insurance billing or scheduling.
as for the meeting with Dr Kane.. i agree with you that it was unusual and definitely not acceptable. Every time i've been there to discuss results, i've talked about it with the dr on call, and then if i have additional questions, they'll take my number and have my specific dr call me back later in the day if they're not there at the time. I've never waited an hour to see anyone.. i'm sorry you had to go through that. perhaps it was closer to the end of the morning and they were backed up? i've always been there very early so don't have that problem.
as for the waiting room shuffle - they do so much monitoring and testing in the early morning, and it's always seemed to move pretty quickly. I actually find them to be incredibly efficient (having compared it to other dr's offices) and don't mind that they call several people in at once to the 2nd waiting room. It keeps things moving and you don't feel like you're waiting as long. I can understand not wanting to feel like a number, but i've always felt they've treated me with care and respect there.
The nurses and techs there are all so friendly and really do treat you with care. I hope you have a better experience next time you go there since you definitely need to feel good about where you go for this journey!

Re: RSoNY Patients - a question
You see, that's what everyone is telling me. People here on LIF and 2 girls I know IRL.
I'll just chalk it up to a series of bad luck and keep going with them. So far I'm okay with how they're handling my medical issues so i guess that's most important.
No, the 2 girls I know IRL have had a quick time having babies with them, and THAT is what is most important.

Re: RSoNY Patients - a question
This is my 2nd time there....I have pretty much all positive things to say about them. I do agree about waiting to see Dr. Kane though. If you had waited 50 minutes and gotten to speak about your treatment that would have been a different story.
If you continue to feel this way, I would think about changing practices. There are so many other doctors out there and you should not have to feel this way.

I am sorry that you had to go through that. I never had that experience with them. The nurses, techs and girls in the front were always so great. I never saw Dr. Kane. Dr. Sung was my primary over there. If I had to see the dr on call the nurses always asked if I minded waiting. If I could I would. Do they have new people at the desk? The last time I was there (in March) there were a few girls that were pregnant so the regulars can be out on leave.

Re: RSoNY Patients - a question
I was never a patient there but if you are having doubts and have the medical coverage, check out a second opinion. You'll be able to see another office and another doctor and maybe that will be a better fit. If nothing else, you will realize that you do really like where you are. It can't hurt either way. I think its really important to feel comfortable with your doctor and staff when going through IF treatments. It takes at least one of the many stresses off of you. Best of luck no matter what you decide!

Re: RSoNY Patients - a question
Oh no, that's sad to hear. I have never had a bad experience. I go to both the West Islip and Mineola offices. I am a year in and have always had good experiences with the staff. Yes, I don't understand the 2 waiting rooms, but I still can't complain. I'm sure it will be better next time.

I'm so sorry that you had a bad experience there!!
I went there for 3 months and have always had a postivie experience. Their process took some getting used to, but the staff is extremely friendly and efficient. They try their hardest to get you in and out quickly. Of course going there day after day got frustrating but it will be SO worth it once you get your BFP. I saw Dr. Saketos and she was absolutely wonderful. She really took the time to understand my situation and after my 3rd medicated cycle/1st IUI, I got my BFP!
Good Luck!!!

Re: RSoNY Patients - a question
Thanks for all the replies!
I'm not sure how I want to proceed. My OB-GYN sent me to Dr. Sung and they seem to really respect each other and work together well, which is important because they've had to coordinate info/tests on me a couple of times already. And I do like Dr. Sung's personality a lot. But between them losing my test results 3 TIMES and making me wait 45 minutes to talk to a doc who refused to answer my questions and only took my cell # before sending me on my way... I don't know.
They haven't used that cell #, by the way. 6 PM and still no phone call. I need to know if I should start my new pack of BC pills tomorrow (please please please NO) - kind of important!
