Anyone know where i can find the rules/protocol with quarantine?

What I am looking for say you get a phone call you were exposed, do you have to quarantine the whole 10/14 days ( i know its now recommended its only 10 days not sure if NYS is following that) or if you get tested and its negative you don't have to quarantine anymore?

where can I find this information on the NYS site. i always have trouble finding anything on that site.

You have to quarantine the whole 14 days if you get a call that you were exposed, you can't take a test to opt out of quarantining because you could test negative today and positive tomorrow.

But, it's 14 days from exposure. For instance my neighbor got a call about quarantining this weekend but last exposure was last Monday - so she only has to quarantine for 9 more days. Only the person exposed has to quarantine, not the other family members (so if one of your children is exposed at school - you and DH can go to work and other children can attend school and activities still).

I have a lot of friends who have/had kids in quarantine so I've become familiar with the procedures.

Re: Rules for Quarantine

I feel like whoever calls you up to tell you this wonderful news should be providing you with all the rules.
Like- You were exposed so you need to quarantine for X number of days, who in your house does and does not have to quarantine, if you need to go get a test etc

Why do they leave it up to you to figure out the rules?

Rules for Quarantine

As an essential employee there's not really a quarantine. I am allowed to return to work after 3 days fever free even if it hasn't been 14 days. Has to be isolated for 7 days, but not 14. So the rules are different

I was about to comment on this with essential workers because a friend of mines husband is a police officer and she works for the government. Their daughter was exposed in preschool. They found out about 4 days after exposure, and had to quarantine until - covid test (took another 3) none of them had symptoms that entire time. Don’t know if that makes a difference. But they were all back to work and kids back to daycare and school after 7-8 days

Because constitutionally in the U.S. they can’t really mandate these rules. That is why there are different rules. Because it depends on how the state is being run and then when you go down the line, depends on businesses, schools and mayors etc, Legally they can’t put anyone in quarantine jail. I mean for Christ sake look at our president?

I personally know a family where someone in a school “may” have been exposed to someone who tested positive. The school is closed down for three weeks now. All surrounding schools who played sports with this school, had to cancel games and supposedly quarantine. Meanwhile, the parent of the kid who’s school isn’t open is at work. Also the person who was “exposed” tested negative last week. What is the point of all this? You can easily be exposed at the supermarket to someone who may test positive. When is enough is enough with this BS??

Also it's inconsistent with travel to states that are on the "list". I know of more than one person who traveled to one of the "hot spot " states (which by the way in NY is pretty much every state other than the tri state area lately) and did not have to fill out any paperwork when returning to NY nor where they contacted in any way shape or form in regards to quarantine once back.
Very inconsistent

My cousin came from Cali, didn’t fill out any paperwork. Chat Icon It’s not like Covid is just waiting for you when you cross the borderline of these state. People are still getting it in the tri-state area. The list is stupid, take precautions, wash your hands etc.

My DH has to go to work as long as he's not symptomatic - so the rules to vary. I assumed she was asking for the non-essential worker standard quarantine rules.

The quarantine doesn't make much sense to me either. All of the people I know who have been told to quarantine from school/sports related exposures were contacted 5+ days after their exposure anyway - so of their 14 day quarantine, they only had to do 9 days or less (and were out and about doing their normal things after they were exposed and before they were told they had to quarantine)

The 10 day thing is if you test positive or have "symptoms" and don't take the test. 10 days from the onset of symptoms you're supposed to quarantine.

The 14 days is in regard to exposure. They claim you can get a positive test up to 14 days after being exposed to the virus, which is why taking a test on say day 5 shouldn't clear you to go back to regular life.

But we're all basically business as usual and should not be upset about this according to some people. Chat Icon

Re: Rules for Quarantine

My daughter was ordered to quarantine from exposure at school. 14 days. A negative test doesn't matter, still has to quarantine.

Scroll to the bottom of this page

There is an FAQ, which explains some of exactly how the quarantine works. A negative test is insufficient.

Yes! You don't find this the least bit disruptive??? I don't have the option to work from home. I'm a small business owner and it's a huge deal if I can't be there. My livelihood depends on it.

I know that there are a lot of people out there who are fine staying at home for two weeks. Many employers have to still pay their staff if they're out sick with Covid. Not sure where that money is supposed to come from for already struggling businesses but the employee that now gets a two week paid leave isn't concerned by this (disclaimer, this paid leave varies based upon stats of the business. Some are exempt.)

They say the unemployment rate is high but I'm having less applicants than ever. I'm convinced that many people just got comfortable not working and have figured out how to survive on unemployment.

I have to constantly worry that one of my kids might get a cold or God forbid, get exposed at school and now I have to stay home for two weeks and pray my business survives because my elderly parents can't stay with them.

I'm sorry but I'm over this. I wear my mask, I wash my hands but this is not sustainable. I'm not having a mental breakdown, I haven't cried over this but I am very stressed and yes, very annoyed. If you can't understand that oh well.

“Covid privilege”? You have serious issues. Once again, back off.

Yeah, I’ve been really “privileged” losing my family member to Covid and struggling to keep my family and my own small business functioning.

Am I distressed and sad? Absolutely. Am I “annoyed”? Absolutely not. I do not relate to that feeling here. No one is oppressing me. No, not Gov. Cuomo. It’s a VIRUS.

Covid privilege is a real thing. I didn't make it up.
And no one mentioned your Lord and savior Cuomo. This People simply mentioned how the rules are unclear and confusing and vary so much that they really aren't all that effective nor do they make much sense. In many states, not just here.
If you read the thread you will see how some people don't have to even quarantine at all.
None of it makes sense which is why people were complaining .
You have serious issues. Once again back off .

Chat Icon

Why are you upset about this exactly? Other than it’s annoying and an inconvenience.

Yep. It's called Covid privilege. Not everyone can stay locked at home indefinitely.

You’re right Nell. The covid rules are a nuisance to some and can destroy others based on their livelihood and ability to get help from others.

I’m in the boat of trying hard to not do anything unnecessary to keep us from getting it or being exposed. Friends of ours went to a wedding (small/outdoor) this weekend, I said we’ll see them in 2 weeks. Niece went to a bday party and play date (again, small and outdoors) I’ll see them in 2 weeks too. Sorry - these people, If they get it or are exposed (and hopefully aren’t terribly ill) can still be paid and get a 2 week vacay. We get it? We close our business for at least 2 Weeks and have to pay our entire staff to quarantine as well. Done.

No symptoms and negative test should be ok. With mask wearing and social distancing as usual. “Essential” or not. All work is essential to me
