Runners
Do you get a better workout if you run outside rather than a treadmill?

Re: Runners
For me there are different benefits to both.
I like the treadmill b/c I can really control my speed & incline. I can bump it up faster to a fixed speed with the clock right there. I also like to see how many calories I am burning. Treadmill running for me also avoids some of the pounding. I have a cushion-type of treadmill so it gives when I step.
When I run outside, I run slower. It's easier to just slow down and not even really know my pace. I just find it harder to push myself unless it's a race.

Re: Runners
Running on a treadmill has always been much easier for me. With a treadmill there is a belt that slightly pushes you along. On the road it's just you and the pavement, and hils, and cracks and all the other obstacles the outdoors bring, which creates more of a challenge.

Re: Runners
Yes, running outside is definitely more of a challenge. I cancelled my gym membership.......since I have a park by my house that I go running in. It has tons of hills and trails.........and I can't even get close to running 6.0+ outside than what I was doing on the treadmill. Even though Im running at a slower speed, I still think its a better work out and challenges you more.
