Runners with allergies
What do you do?
I only run outside. I don't belong to a gym or have a treadmill. I can barely run inside. I get so bored.
I just increased my run by 10-15 minutes. My old route was taking me only 15-20 minutes that used to take me 25. So I started to run a different route.
Friday I didd this run and felt great. Its along the Hudson river in the morning. Its gorgeous.
But today I had such a bad run. Maybe its because I haven't run since Friday, but I could barely breathe and I kept wanting to stop. I kept checking the clock adn the streets to see when I would be done. It was like when I first started running.
Any ideas?

Re: Runners with allergies
Do you take anything for the allergies? When you said you couldn't breathe, were you wheezing? I get asthma when I run in cold weather--I used to love running outdoors in winter and early spring, but no more.
You could try meds though and if you are wheezing, you may need asthma medication. If that doesn't help, I would run indoors until whatever you are allergic to passes-try lighter exercise outdoors, maybe bike riding or walking where you don't breathe as heavily.
That trail on the Hudson is beautiful--I loved the NYC trails I used to use--one thing I miss on LI!

Re: Runners with allergies
I tried to run/walk outside - I just can't do it. I broke out in hives and could barely breathe.
I bought a used treadmill for $100 on Craigslist and watch tv while I run....not too bad.

Re: Runners with allergies
I'm not wheezing, more like panting. I can't breathe through my nose. Running indoors is really not an option. I don't belong to a gym and a treadmill will not fit into my small NYC apartment. Plus, I hate running inside.
To make matters worse, I have been coughing for days and my nose has been all stuffed.
So I ran today- my shorter 20 minute route. Its better than nothing, right? it sucked ,but I did it. Hopefully it will get easier again and I can go back to running for 35 minutes.
