Running off to be funny but can be a safety concern...
DS is 3 and I still need to hold his hand getting him in the car, from the school bus to my home, picking him up from school (school hallway) he can't stand still next to me even giving money to a cashier. At school they are working on this with a come here program and will let him hold a ring rope when walking from the classroom to the gym. I try to let go to get him to learn to stay near me but he will run off laughing looking back to see if I'm chasing or just run to run. My DH let him go when we went pumpki picking and he ran a football field never coming back I'm yelling like a lunatic in the field and DH had to run fast to get him I totally can see him running in the street not knowing etc. he will do this at parks, restaraun....
Please tell me this will get better, did you or do you have this problem? Any advice on how to get him to understand to not run off he thinks it's funny when I chase but I have to get him. Till it ends it's a lot of hold handing and carrying at times ;(

I think age and maturity has a lot to do with a it. We had this a lot at age 3. Now that DS is 4 he stays and listens more.
Plenty of times I would yell at him like a loon when he was running towards the street. My neighbors must think I am out of my mind.

DS is almost 5 and still has no concept of danger and would run into the street if I wasn't right there with a death grip on him. We've had school run programs working on listening and responding to "STOP" but it hasn't gotten better for us yet. Good luck to you! It's so scary.
