Ruth Bader Ginsburg died
Omg - I cant believe this is happening! She held on for a long time and her last wish was that she wasn’t replaced by the current president. I imagine the Republicans are figuring out how to force someone thru in record time.

I know, so sad to see a trailblazer pass, but also to know that her last wish will likely be unfulfilled. I am certain that Mitch McConnell is already working on her replacement.

RIP RBG
Mitch McConnell in 2016 blocking Merrick Garland's nomination by Obama:
It's important to "give the people a voice in the filling of this vacancy" by waiting until the new president took office.
Guess that doesn't apply in this election year.

Re: Ruth Bader Ginsburg died
My heart is heavy tonight. No disrespect to anyone but it’s these things that make me believe there is no god. I feel like we are witnessing the beginning of the end: climate change fires, storms and pollution. Covid. Racism. Evil. Hatred. White-male-ego literally destroying the earth.
I want to believe the good will prevail but it’s hard.
I donated to Amy McGrath. Not much more I can do tonight.
If you believe in prayers, do it. I fear I’ve lost my faith.

I have met her a few times. She is a true testament to the idea that decency, humility, and intellectual honesty always prevail. May our daughters be forever inspired by her. May her legacy guide us.

Ruth Bader Ginsburg died
We just watched On the Basis of Sex with the older kids - to give them an idea of who she is and her importance. It’s a good movie - I highly recommend it.

Ruth Bader Ginsburg died
i usually comment about public figures' death, but they rarely ever affect me. there have been two deaths in recent history that have really hurt me to the core.
* anthony bourdain * ruth bader ginsburg
i have spent a large portion of the weekend crying. not crazy, ugly crying... but being sincerely sad and tearful.

I was like this on 9/11 this year. I think maybe because I was off and I had the news one the entire time they were calling the names.
Super emotional. This entire year has been.

Re: Ruth Bader Ginsburg died
2016, Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas): “It has been 80 years since a Supreme Court vacancy was nominated and confirmed in an election year. There is a long tradition that you don’t do this in an election year.” 2018, Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.): “If an opening comes in the last year of President Trump’s term, and the primary process has started, we’ll wait to the next election.” 2016, Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.): “I don’t think we should be moving on a nominee in the last year of this president’s term - I would say that if it was a Republican president.” 2016, Sen. David Perdue (R-Ga.): “The very balance of our nation’s highest court is in serious jeopardy. As a member of the Senate Judiciary Committee, I will do everything in my power to encourage the president and Senate leadership not to start this process until we hear from the American people.” 2016, Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa): “A lifetime appointment that could dramatically impact individual freedoms and change the direction of the court for at least a generation is too important to get bogged down in politics. The American people shouldn’t be denied a voice.” 2016, Sen. Thom Tillis (R-N.C.): “The campaign is already under way. It is essential to the institution of the Senate and to the very health of our republic to not launch our nation into a partisan, divisive confirmation battle during the very same time the American people are casting their ballots to elect our next president.” 2016, Sen. Richard Burr (R-N.C.): “In this election year, the American people will have an opportunity to have their say in the future direction of our country. For this reason, I believe the vacancy left open by Justice Antonin Scalia should not be filled until there is a new president.” 2016, Sen. Roy Blunt (R-Mo.): “The Senate should not confirm a new Supreme Court justice until we have a new president.” 2016, Sen. Cory Gardner (R-Col.): “I think we’re too close to the election. The president who is elected in November should be the one who makes this decision.” 2016, Sen. Rob Portman (R-Ohio): “I believe the best thing for the country is to trust the American people to weigh in on who should make a lifetime appointment that could reshape the Supreme Court for generations. This wouldn’t be unusual. It is common practice for the Senate to stop acting on lifetime appointments during the last year of a presidential term, and it’s been nearly 80 years since any president was permitted to immediately fill a vacancy that arose in a presidential election year.” 2016, Sen. Ron Johnson (R-Wisc.): “I strongly agree that the American people should decide the future direction of the Supreme Court by their votes for president and the majority party in the U.S. Senate.”
And yet there's already plans to vote in a new judge.

Ruth Bader Ginsburg died
I'm not surprised - they're the party that stoops to cheating any way they can. The only hope is that 4 of them (whether in that list or not) has a come to Jesus moment and realizes how awful they're being.
I saw yesterday that Pelosi is threatening to impeach Trump or Barr so that the SCOTUS move can't happen.

Re: Ruth Bader Ginsburg died
The republicans are a bunch of rude hypocrites and I cannot take it!!!!!!!
It just isn't fair or moral.
Any woman who supports the republican party right now, I just don't understand. I guess they are wishing they lived back in the 1900's. Because that is where women's rights are headed back to.

Especially mothers of daughters.
While we hope our daughters will never be in a position to need an abortion, and we might not all agree with abortions, we should all demand safe, sanitized, sterilized, environments and knowledgeable doctors in case they ever do.
We CANT go backwards!

I only met her once - when I was sworn in before the high court. I was lucky enough to be in the reception room she came to after the ceremony. Each of the justices had gone to a different room. I wish I could go to DC Wednesday or Thursday.

I really like this thing I read online: both Republicans and Dems don’t want abortions. No one is pro-abortion. The difference is Repubs want to outlaw while Dems want to help remove/reduce the need (sex Ed, birth control, support for single working moms, etc) And actually there have been greater reductions in the number of procedures under Dem leadership.
So if we could stop being so “my way or the highway”, it would probably be possible to come together and actually achieve better results. Just sad current political climate makes that impossible. People are very short sighted and selfish instead of using logic, data and facts.

Exactly. You can be 100% against abortion. You can say that you would never personally get one no matter what. But you can still agree that others should have the right to have that option in a safe and legal way should they need it. Having your own opinions and moral beliefs is one thing. Forcing your will and your moral compass on to everyone else in the country is quite another.
