Rylan won't eat!! Kinda long

I'm not sure how big of an issue this is but I can't get Rylan to eat anything. I waste so much food all day long because i'm trying everything I can think of. He won't eat his cereal or purees anymore so I thought he was just past that stage. Anything I can get him to eat he takes about 2 or 3 bites and that's it.

I mentioned it to his ped at his last visit and he kinda blew it off like it was no big deal but I know he should be eating more. He asked me when he eats...I said when he feels like it and his response was...isn't that how you eat? He tested his blood and everything came back perfect...he's also growing still so he said everything is ok.

I can get him to eat about 1/4 of a blueberry waffle...if that in the morning and sometimes that's it for the day. When he's in the mood for it he will eat a whole yogurt. Other than that if i'm lucky i'll get 1 bite of something in his mouth. Last night for dinner I tried...raviolis...chicken soup...chick n nugget...yogurt...cereal. I even tried to give him some of my PPJ knowing he shouldn't eat it just to see if I can get food in him.

I normally give him a taste of anything i'm eating if he'll take it. I've noticed if it's a sweet...cookie...cake...ice cream he devours it so now I won't be giving him anything like that anymore.

I just don't know how long I should let it go on for before it becomes unhealthy. At 10 months he shouldn't be on so much formula.

DS is 20 months and still like this. I just found out he is in the 10th percentile and I am concerned. My ped told me not to worry too much and when we take the 2 year old meds we will see how his nutrition is

I get frustrated but we just continue to try to offer things....even if he will only eat bread

Rylan is in the high percentiles...95 for height and 75 for weight.

He used to always eat his cereal and fruit/veggie purees I made him. This started when I started giving more table food. He can eat anything I give him...as far as being able to chew and stuff like that. He has 7 teeth so he bite everything too. He just refuses food...unless it's a sweet. I don't understand how he knows the difference at this age.

I read how all of the other babies his age are eating so much...actual meals and can't understand why he won't. Especially knowing he can...just doesn't want to.

I know it seems like all the i of my own the other day, they all are not.

DS iis almost 14 months, and s in the 95th for height also, but 10th percentile for weight. He ate quite well though until he about a month ago (though he had a lot of trouble gagging on table food in the beginning). He doesn't gag anymore, but if it's not bread (excpet pasta) or cheese, or pureed fruit or veggies, he wants no part of it. He is capable of eating well cooked small bits of veggies or fruit, but he doesn't care for them.

Since he is thin, I do feed him something he will eat each meal, though I try new foods first. Sometimes he will surprise me, but I think most kids go through a picky stage around a year or a little after. As long as Ryan is still gaining, I wouldn't worry too much, but I know, easier said than done. Does he take vitamins? That should help also.

Funny you mention the gagging. If the food...any consistency...goes more than half way back on his tongue he gags. I guess he has good gag reflexes.

My problem is I don't know what he'll eat. He LOVES Yobaby yogurt but it's hit or miss if he'll eat it. I can't tell you how many I throw out because he refused it. I wish there was one safe bet to feed him each meal but there isn't. There are some days he goes the whole day without eating...even though I offer many different options.

His ped never even mentioned anything about vitamins yet...which I found very strange. I forgot to ask at his 9 month visit.

My DS isn't taking any vitamins and he is 21 months old.

As for the eating, I think they really go in stages. My DS looovvveed food for a while, ate EVERYTHING. Now, he is a bit pickier.

I used to get so stressed out like you are getting, but (and this is bad, but it works for me and I know for a few other girls) I let him eat while he watches tv and he does eat a lot more.Chat Icon

How long has this been going on? Could be a teething issue? Lily's not a great eater, but occasionally, she'll eat very very little, and it's usually because of teeth. It passes after a day or two though.

I always put him in front of the tv to eat...bad I know but it does help a little. At this point i'll put him on top of the tv if I have to...lol.

I would say a month or two. I honestly don't think it's related to teething. I say that because Rylan is the absolute best teether out there!!! It doesn't phase him at all. He has 7 so far and you would never know he was teething until you saw the tooth. I was blessed in that department...lol.

I guess i'm more worried that it will become a bigger problem after he's done with formula. What if he still doesn't eat? Where is the nutrition going to come from?
