S. Huntington School District

Does anyone know anything about this school district? Go there? Have opinions?

We found a house in that district that we like, but we don't know much about the district.

We don't even have kids yet, but we know that we are going to so we want to know where we are moving!

The Principal actually just won an award--it's come a long way, but...

James Polansky, principal of Walt Whitman High School in South Huntington, has been named the state's top principal of the year.
When Polansky arrived at the district, the high school was on the state's list of schools that needed improvement. Walt Whitman High School was the site of a gang-related fight in 2004 that caused the ouster of its principal at the time, Geoffrey Touretz, and the arrest of two students.

Hi! I'm a grad of SHUFSD! I went to Birchwood, Oakwood, Stimson and Whitman.

If i'm being 100% honest, when I graduated the district was still good but starting to get aloooot of ESL kids. Not sure if thats an issue for you but the NY Ave part of Huntington goes there too. It cuts off by Pulaski and switches over to Huntington. It also goes all the way southwest to the Round Swamp Road area (borderline Dix Hills) and then all the way west tothe Maplewood area--I'm pretty sure the cutoff over there is Beverly Road?

I had a lot of great teachers there and I had some bad ones too. Mr Graziano was the best in Whitman but I'm sure he will be gone by the time you have kids in high school.

Its hard for me to say too bc I've been out of high school for quite some time! haha
