Re: School districts in Huntington...
We're in Huntington, but in SD#6 - Harborfields
Our children aren't in the SD yet, so I can't really give you any personal experience.

I am in district #13 (South Huntington), I did research before buying and heard wonderful things about the district.
I heard district #5 is not that great, but then again everyone has an opinion so you really should do your own research. Check out GreatSchools.com as well.
The SD's in Huntington are:
#13 - South Huntington - very diverse district (I went to School here). You will definitely hear pro's and con's on this district (#3 as well - Huntington)...however, I feel that your child will get out of the district what they put into it. I went to school w/lawyers, doctors and even scientists. This district covers, Huntington Station, Melville (it's actually a pretty large district). It covers as north as 12th Street and goes as far south to Rollingwoods section of Melville (near the Mall). Goes as far east as Maplewood area (to Park Avenue) and as far west as close to Round Swamp Road.
#3 - Huntington - I believe same as above. This district runs from Huntington Station through Huntington Village and I believe Halesite as well.
#5 - Half Hollow Hills - excellent district from what I've heard (covers most of Melville)
Not sure of the other Half Hollow SD # but that is Dix Hills area
#6 - Harborfields - Good district
Elwood (Not sure of the district) considered an excellent school district
FM if you have any questions. HTH

Re: School districts in Huntington...
I went to South Huntington district #13 and recently bought a house in the district. I had a wonderful experience in school. It is diverse and has tons of good music and art programs, sports, and lots of AP classes with excellent teachers in the high school level. I would not hesitate to send my children to this district. The community is very supportive of the schools.
My mother teaches Huntington SD and she thinks it gets undeserved negative attention.
All the other districts around (harborfields, Elwood, etc) are excellent.

All of HHH is one district - but they have two fantastic high schools
