First that comes to my mind is "Why" by Annie Lennox....

I love that song.

On her cd "Bare" she has a song called The Saddest Song I've Got. . . and it's pretty much a really sad song.

Sometimes Wild Horses makes me sad....also
You Light up life by Debbie Boone and Weve only just Begun by the Carpenters (?) remind me of before my parents got divorced

It's an oldie but "The Long and Winding Road" by the Beatles. Gets me every time. Also, "My Way" by Frank Sinatra makes me tear up.

Re: Saddest song ever???

A gifted songwriter draws from experiences when they write. If we as their audiences are able to make those same connectiions then certain songs will always have an effect on us. That being said:

Dance With My Father - though I was never a Luther Vandross fan, this song was released at a time in my life when I was losing my own father. To this day , I cannot listen to it or even think about the song without my emotions overwhelming me. When it was in heavy rotation, radio stations were playing it in the morning at the same time (when I was on my way to work) and by the time I got to my destination, I had to reapply my make up.

Very similar reasons why I listed this song! It was about the timing and what else was going on in life right then. Chat Icon
