safe nail salons?
I know recently there have been reports of some nail salons not being sanitary. This makes me nervous. Where I go seems clean, but how do I really know? What should you look for in a nail salon?

Re: safe nail salons?
Cleo nails in Sayville right by the new subway. They are spotless in there, I have never had in issue. They bleach all the pedi stations between customers. They also have one in Bayport by 7-11.

Re: safe nail salons?
I am a manicurist so here are some things you can look for...
1- by NYS law everyone must use their own file, buffer, orangewood stick, and anything else that cannot be sanitized, including foot files
2- make sure they use hospital grade disinfectant to sanitize their instruments and they soak them for in the solution between clients - if they claim to sterilize their instruments - they are lying it is impossible to do
3- by law you are not allowed to cut cuticles with a nipper and you cannot use a razor on the foot - both for obvious infection reasons
4- pumice stones are unsanitary - they are basically sponges that hold onto everyones bacteria - you are better off with a foot file because they do not hold the bacteria in the same way
5- watch the way they clean the pedicure pots - they should be really scrubbing those things because they can hold so much bacteria it is disgusting
if I think of more I will add them

Thanks...it's a little out of the way for me now being in west babylon. i like the place where i go, maxi nails...it seems clean, but now im wondering if they really do all those things the other poster said. does anyone have a nail salon in the west babylon area that they know is truly clean?!

I go to the Bayport one....like it but always crowded.
I heard it is unsafe to clip your cuticles... I clip mine constantly.
