SAH - Do you enjoy being a SAHM - PT or FT?
I know there are a lot of SAHM threads floating around today but I was just wondering. You hear so many woman say how much they love being a SAHM and how many who wish they could be a SAHM but I was talking to a friend and we were saying how being a SAHM just isn’t for everyone. Not to say you don’t like being home with your DC or appreciate the opportunity but for one reason or another you miss working.
So I was wondering what everyone’s thoughts where.

PT SAHM – Perfect Balance
Right now it is a perfect balance for me. I love my time home with Gavin, but I do enjoy going to work.

I am a FT SAHM and I love it! I probably should have voted other. Even though I am home, I do babysit M-F from 9:15-2:45. The kids keep me busy, but, I love it.

Re: SAH - Do you enjoy being a SAHM - PT or FT?
I work 4 days a week, I would prefer to work 3 days a week...but at the minute that a no go. My son LOVES his daycare, so I feel pretty great about the whole thing. I think that I would like to be a SAHM, but I really enjoy working too. Its a conundrum. I want it all, like many modern women!

I do agree, because there are times when I am at home and feel guilty because I should be at work and when I am at work I should be home.
But overall, right now, it is a good situation for me and my family.

same here.
I love it.
Other then being around Josh, it has brought a ton of balance to my life.
Everything became simple. I like a simple lifestyle.
Leo works a lot. So, with me home, I cook and do the cleaning, when he's home we really just get to enjoy each other. I love that. I guess it's lazy on my part, but I like not having any scheduling conflicts. Drs appts, playdates, anything...we can be there.
I would have had to miss a ton of work this year with Josh being sick. I was always very dedicated to my job, it would have killed me to take all those days off.
With this economy, I appreciate the fact that we aren't "tapped" out. I am a reserve. If anything happens to him or his job, we only have one income to cover.
I know I have said it before, but every night is Friday night and every morning is Saturday morning for me, that is priceless. I stay busy, just a different kind of busy now. I look so forward to the day when kids are in school and playdates turn into tennis matches...I am eager to improve my game and attempt golfing again.

PT SAHM – Perfect Balance
I work one day a week. I am a SAHM the other 6 days! While I don't need to work, I enjoy going in to get away from it all, and going out to lunch with coworkers and having adult conversations!

I work 3X a week and love getting out for that little bit, with not a ton of responsibility (subbing).
Karen- I didnt realize you were no longer teaching f/t. good for you that you changed up your schedule to work for your family. Subbing works great for me right now, although sometimes I do want a "real" job, even if just pt.
but i've had such easy days lately (pure luck! subbing on field trip and other school events/ days and getting out super early). so then I think "hey leave well enough alone" the grass cant be that much greener if I got a real job.

Re: SAH - Do you enjoy being a SAHM - PT or FT?
I am a full time stay at home mom. I love it.
I do teach CCD on Saturday monrings, so I am 'working' on something weekly (lessons, handouts, tests, grading, etc..).
I am also involved in politics (locally) so I have been working the phone banks some weeknights and stuffing envelopes at home lately.
We keep busy with the gym, playdates and mommy and me, park visits, walks. I keep busy with the household - laundry, finances, etc...
I give credit to mommy's who work F/T because there never seems to be enough hours in the day!
There are days I miss the interaction of adult conversation (that doesn't revolve around mine or someone elses kid) --- so I look for things that will stimulate me mentally and stimulate conversation when I am out that does not involve childcare or the house.
Also, I feel a lot like Janice said, every night is Friday night and every morning is Saturday morning. It is a nice feeling to be free.

This is me. I love my simpler lifestyle now. I feel empathy for the working moms I know-- they seem to have so many scheduling conflicts, lack of time to get things done... basically all these problems that they have to throw money at in order to outsource. I do not feel that rush, that pull in ten different directions at once. I have my role and DH has his.
DH loves the lifestyle too-- no having to decide who takes the sick day or wastes vacation time. No having to rush out of the office for a daycare pickup or dr appt. All his vaca days truly are fun days off for us as a family.

Re: SAH - Do you enjoy being a SAHM - PT or FT?
I am a FT SAHM during the week but work PT on the weekends.
A part of me would love being a FT SAHM even on weekends if we had more $$. But that would be straining our $$ too much. So I work just enough to pay for my car, our car insurance, my student loans, DS' clothes and toys and my clothes.
But given the situation I love working PT. I get to see "grown ups". I still feel I bring some $$$. I keep my name in the workforce.
I never have full days with DH but this is the best solution we have found.
DS is not in daycare and with me covering my own expenses and DS', we really can make it work.
I can go out with DS during the week to GTGs, etc..
I love being a SAHM during the week. I never feel stressed to do what I want to do with DS. I only work 10 hours per week.

Re: SAH - Do you enjoy being a SAHM - PT or FT?
I would like to work PT but I would require daycare for my kids. Also in my field there is no PT anymore.
I think that working PT would be the perfect balance. I am a people person and often find that I am missing the adult interaction that I need.
I am blessed to been able to stay home this long. I love my kids but it was very hard for me to become a stay at home mom. Transition from working since I was 15 to now being home with two kids was extremely hard.
It's not for everyone and no matter what people decide it's what you feel is best for you and your family. Children thrive as love as they are loved:)

Re: SAH - Do you enjoy being a SAHM - PT or FT?
I have my own business and basically work at night and a little on the weekends.
I control how much work I have, so I don't let it interfere with my time with Ale.
However I do miss having coworkers and the whole environment of working with other people. But I wouldn't give up what I have.

PT SAHM.
Was a FT SAHM for a few months, but, financially, it wasnt' working out.
I love being around people again, and its only 20 hours a week and its only 10 minutes from my house.
