SAHM's-Budget
Can you share with me if your husbands salary include spending money for clothes for DC, going out, gifts for bdays etc? Or do you work pt, starve? Can you give me a run down of your budget...

I'm not a SAHM...but shouldn't those things be part of every family's budget?

Re: SAHM's-Budget
I work p/t and use my checks mainly for clothes for DS, grocery shopping and birthday gifts. And all the little things that pop up.

Re: SAHM's-Budget
I think the best way to budget for a SAHM is to see if you could live strictly off DH's salary for a month or two. Behave as if your salary does not exist and cut corners where you need to. Bank your income and see how it goes.
If it doesn't work out at least you will have a nice little savings at the end of your experiment.

I'm a sahm and my dh takes care of everything, however I did start babysitting but I just use that as my pocket money for the wk (for any extra treats or anything)

my questions is weather or not SAHM's do something on the side for spending money...not necessities, I guess it sounded that way...I mean EXTRA stuff...like my DS now has about enought clothes to dress 10 kids...but im talking about basics...

Yes, we just set this up so my check goes into savings...according to calculations it should work, not including dinners out etc...

Re: SAHM's-Budget
We started living stricting on DH's salary once I got PG to see how it would work out. It was tight, but we made it work. While we were living on his salary I banked mine so we have a nice "emergency" fund just in case things get tight. I also decided to stay very PT at my job (respiratory therapist) so I can use that paycheck to pick up the slack each month.

Re: SAHM's-Budget
We would really benefit from me working or doing something on the side bacause we scrape paycheck to paycheck. The only reason I am a stay at home mom is because two kids in full time days car and travel costs equaled my salary. If we had someone to watch our kids (like a family member) I would be working full time.
We really don't do anything extra at all and I really don't buy clothes - it's terrible. We have a lot of hand me downs for the boys and I ask for toys for x-mas to take car of their toy needs.
DS's salary covers the bills and that's it really. We look forward to tax time:) We paid off everything except the house. We have no car payments, no cc's and no other debt which really made me able to stay home.
For us it's not easy but it's really the only option at this point - especially with the job market (I was an HR Rep.)

Look into doing Before and After School care. A few hours in the morning...a few in the afternoon....it's decent money.

I work P/t to pay our car payments and to help with other bills.
His checks are where all the other money comes from.

Re: SAHM's-Budget
DH's salary covers everything for the family, including kids.
I work very, very PT (8-10 hours a week, at most) and that money is for me to get the little things I want, like taking a photography course or getting a new pair of boots I really want, but don't need!

Re: SAHM's-Budget
DH's income covers all our family spending. We saved my salary for most of my pregnancy to get used to the one salary paying all the bills.

Re: SAHM's-Budget
We don't really budget. We just have a set amount for things that we try not to go over but we generally do. DH is good with money so I don't worry. I also will go back to work PT at some point.

Re: SAHM's-Budget
I am PT now, work 3 days a week, so I get 60% of my salary. We are trying to bank my salary and just live on my DH. Next month, I am going to track every single penny on a spreadsheet to get a better idea. We have been able to save and have a nice amount, but I need to look at it more.
