Saline nasal spray

Anyone else using them for allergy relief? My doctor ok'd benadryl, but it knocks me out. A few mommies at work recommended the saline spray and the doctor was okay with it, but I forget to ask how often.

This was recommended by my doctor as well because my nose is constantly stuffed and now with allergy season it's WORSE! However, it did NOTHING for me. I was also told I could use Afrin and have been. Without it, I can't breathe. I REALLY hope this passes once the baby is born.

Re: Saline nasal spray

My allergies have never, ever been this bad! At least half of my face is stuffed up 24/7 and it just makes you miserable! Supposedly the pollen/weed count is going way down over the next few days - we'll see!!

Re: Saline nasal spray

My allergies are really bad right now too, which add to my sinus issues!!! Chat Icon I'm terrible, as I don't take anything. On the days it's unbearable I take Tylenol Sinus.

I heard I could use the spray, as long as it's OTC so there's no steroid in it.

My DH has bad bad allergies, he's on benadryl (knocks him out too) and some perscription!

Hope you feel better soon!!!!!

Saline is fine...I have found what you really need to do is something called a "nasal douche" you can check with your doctor of course but all it is is boiled (cooled) salt water. Basically what you are doing is cleaning out all the pollen and allergines that are stuck up your nose. I does really work. I use this when not pregnant along with my usual claritan. For some reason my body isnt reacting to allergy season this year.

Oprah recently did a clip on this - I think she called it a "nasal bidet". I have to hit the drug store this weekend and buy the bulb-thing that they used.

Re: Saline nasal spray

you need to use it religiously for it to work. Its 100% safe, but I had to use about 4-6 times a day for a while to get relief....

Same for me. Karen, the product called Simply Saline works well for me and I think it's nothing but water and salt. But I need to use if about 4 times a day. I hope you get some relief!

Re: Saline nasal spray

I tried saline rinses and it didn't really work.

I use Zyrtec once a day and Rhinocort twice a day and I finally have control of my allergies.
